samanthasunflower User ID: 5364986 United States 02/14/2012 11:26 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I live in Portland, about 70 miles from the Oregon coast. We felt nothing here. Please excuse my ignorance, but if there is a big quake, how could it destroy the whole west coast? The fault line is 150 miles offshore. Sure it would be felt in Portland and Seattle, but destroy the whole west coast? There is more to the west coast than California. Yes, if a big one hits there it is bad news. NW would have damage if it hit up here especially along the coast but not for inland locations like Portland. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 8999639 So were you the one who sent me the red karma an called me a fear monger? I find it extremely sad that you live in Portland and don't know that your entire city will be destroyed the next time the Cascade subduction zone hits us with a 9 plus earthquake and 70 foot tsunamis from Southern Canada to Northern California. [link to en.wikipedia.org] Wake up, there is an actual potential for REAL doom off the Washington, Oregon, and Northern California Coast. |
Fire & Ice User ID: 1343684 United States 02/14/2012 11:26 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Only the Pacific NW...it will have little effect on SoCal...unless it sets off the San Andres. Quoting: Gnothi Seauton I'd rather have doom far off and watch it on tv. Quoting: samanthasunflower I really don't need the entire West Coast of the US to be destroyed. Because that is what will happen when the Cascadia subduction zone goes. Really? If the Juan de Fuca slips, which runs from Oregon to Mendocino, a 1600 mile chunk of earth will create a tsunami estimated to be 200', with 15 minutes warning, which could take out much of the west coast. If the Cascadia slips, and there are estimates it is capable of a 10, there won't be a west coast. Proud to be deplorable The only constant is change The winds of anger, blows out the candle of intelligence "Slowly, like moisture entering the dying tree trunk, slowly filling and rotting it, so did the world and inertia creep into his soul; it slowly filled his soul, made it heavy, made it tired, sent it to sleep" "One must find the source within one's own Self, one must possess it" |

Maybe the built up pressure is being slowly released. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 8159433 Complete myth. Even if this was a 7.0 quake it doesn't mean the worse is yet to come - see Japan last year for perfect example. Cascadia is getting ready to blow folks, we all know it's been years in the making, 300+ to be exact. |

Really easy to take everything back to the Japan quake, but how about the hundreds of other quakes that happen every day? I'm gonna have to call BS on your complete myth statement and go ahead with my instincts and assume your a doom tard. |

The real doom is when they use Alcatraz Island to keep the dead. Madonna will have to change her lyrics to "La Isle Del Muerte." |

"Well, according to my legendary EQ predictive abilities... and you will notice I called 'Eureka' before the Eureka earthquake today... My prognostication is that a really big earthquake strikes off the coast of the middle of Oregon about tomorrow morning. But this ain't the 'BIG ONE' yet." FUCKING WHOA!
