Interesting add-on for Firefox - "Collusion"
Collusion is a new add-on by Mozilla to their popular Firefox browser, which enables users to see who is tracking them on the 'net.

<snipped>
The web-based company wants users of the new add-on to submit anonymous data on their surfing habits, from which they will build a database on who is doing the tracking and also how it is done.

This information will then be available to researchers, privacy activists and journalists who would subsequently monitor data-tracking practices and find possible abuse.

political correctness is a doctrine.... fostered by a delusional, illogical minority...... and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media; which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

Interesting find Phen,,,

peace
Each time a person stands for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he or she sends forth a tiny ripple of hope. And crossing each other from a million different centers of energy and daring, those ripples build a current that can sweep down the mightiest walls of oppression and resistance. Few are willing to embrace the disapproval of their fellows, the censure of their colleagues, the wrath of their society. Moral courage is a rarer commodity than bravery in battle or great intelligence. Yet it is the one essential vital quality for those who seek to change a world that yields most painfully to change. Re: Interesting add-on for Firefox - "Collusion"
IMO there never was any anonymous surfing on the internet.

I have said from the beginning that it was very suspicious that the Gubment gave away such a huge taxable income source as the internet.

From the very start I always thought the internet was released freely so the Gubment could track and profile people.

IE if you have all of someones surfing habits and emails for only one year you know exactly what they are all about.

These latest Internet laws to me are more about control, especially media control and rumor control. If it was not for the internet we still might not know so much about Obummers shady past.

As far as copyright infringements, they could have blocked that a long time ago, and Time Warner and others 00etc were actually providing the hosting ?? for the downloading.

That is total entrapment, to leave copywrited material on the internet available for download for many many years, suck people in, then close the loop. Only problem is they would have to lock up half the world for copyright infringement.

LOL - The GLP collusion icon is a black alien head with green eyes.

Want to see some action look at how much tracking is happening with Ehow - yikes.

Hey Phenn,

You gave me a great idea about writing a program to randomly surf the web - based on a spectrum of interests that we can select from. It could be entirely innocuous, in addition to whatever you're really doing - and that probably should be done via encrypted VPN, or deeper tech.

I use Ghostery and NoScript to give me a heads up on particularly nasty pages - it's not a solution, but it is a start.

I wonder how many VPN's today are already honeypots?

Whether they be Off shore, private, personal cloud, etc...

A hosting provider can easily scout a VPN user and I suspect those users end up on a 'list' as well.

I might not know what a user is doing behind the door, but I can see he goes in and out of that door quite frequently.

And that alone is telling (to the watchers).

IMHO.

You know, there hasn't been anonymous anything since the Patriot Act. There is nothing new to this. It's why the Air Force built Echelon in Canada. Its real, and it's secret. But it can monitor any electronic/phone/satellite communication on the planet. The Patriot Act made it legal to use this facility on the US public too. So it HAS been going on. If this system truly works, you'll see most of it is by the government.

I wrote a new add-on too OP. It is a lightweight component and very accurate.

I do think there are those in the industry who care about privacy and anonymity.

But given the trend, it seems like a losing battle. Sadly.

God Bless.

Interesting thing is that GLP is actually on the side of those data-collecters with the advertisement on this site. If i visit for example: webshop x, and after that i visit GLP i will see ads from webshop x on GLP including the products i just watched.

Sometimes i wonder if GLP is a place for us to discuss or a place for the admins/owners so they can make a shitload of money out of ads and memberships...

Sure, Chrome is nice. I use Chrome as well.

But this is akin to saying my car is better than his car.

Now all cars are registered and have license plates which identify the driver.

And all these cars and their drivers (browser and IP address) travel on the same roads (internet).

But the roads are being monitored. The roads are being surveilled. Studying the traffic patterns of the driver.

Whatever car he is occupying.

IMHO.

peace,
