its an allegory about the fall from unity into duality. And it wasn't about knowledge, it was "knowledge of good and evil" (hence, duality)

Ignorance can be swayed to evil. Knowledge and understanding of evil can lead to better conscience. God still comes off as an evil asshole, and Satan comes off as a whiny bitch who cocked things up to prove a point.
