Breaking News - North Korea says interception of its satellite is an act of war
-------------------------------------------
North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has ratcheted up his regime's militaristic rhetoric as Pyongyang threatened to retaliate against any country that intercepts a North Korean rocket booster or collects the rocket debris.

The North has vowed to launch a rocket sometime between April 12 and 16 to put an earth observation satellite into orbit, a move widely seen as a pretext to disguise a banned test of its ballistic missile technology.

The Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of Korea in Pyongyang warned that interception of the satellite would be "an act of war" and would cause a tremendous catastrophe.

Whoever "intercepts the satellite or collects its debris will meet immediate, resolute and merciless punishment" from the North, the committee said in an English-language statement carried by its Korean Central News Agency late Thursday.

Can't they just fire it vertical - as in straight up so it doesn't cross anyone's airspace?

The missile will probably come VERY close to going over Japanese land, as long as it doesn't go over it the Japanese won't shoot at it. So unless something goes wrong; this test will go on without incident.

It couldn't achieve a stable orbit that way, and wouldn't be an effective test of anything but propulsion systems. the #1 issue with rockets has always been guidance.

There is nothing to fear from N Korea. They are emptily sabre rattling as they do at least every 2 years.
Kim Jong-un is just bullshitting.

Ever seen a night view from above of N/S korea? S korea is lit with lights like most countries. Just above it, no korea is black as pitch.
Is the latter going to engage powers for war? No. They want attention and more money.

NK has been making far too many threats lately. I think that when they actually mean it, no one will believe them and actually cause war.

Evil buyers? They aren't owned by the Rothschild's or controlled by the Bush's. FFS, You people have to smarten up already. It's their country, it's their freedom. Let them do as they please. They aren't threatening to attack other countries like Israel is. They want their freedom to become more tech-advanced and their wish is not to be disturbed. North threatens retaliantion if they are fucked around. Unlike Israel and NATO allies that actually THREATEN and BOMB countries.

Impoverished country dont just spend billions just for earth satellite observation.

Earth observation satellites are satellites specifically designed to observe Earth from orbit, similar to reconnaissance satellites but intended for non-military uses such as environmental monitoring, meteorology, map making etc.

They could have just acquire a billion of stocks with Google if all they want is just an earth satellite observation ,. IMO...

Rockets shot into space are typically fired to the East to take advantage of the earth's rotation, which makes it substantially easier/less costly for it to enter orbit.
