Comparison - anybody ? NUCLEAR EXPLOSION ON RICHTER SCALE
If a nuclear bomb the size dropped on Hiroshima [ 13 to 15 kilotons ],was detonated under the seabed [ drilled hole and placed ] , what sort of readings on the richter scale would you expect ? What magnitude ? Then if anyone with the knowledge , could please also put in relative magnitudes for a 5 megaton ,10 megaton etc , all placed in drilled holes in the seabed . Also what is the biggest megaton bomb they have ? Thanks in advance .

Energy relationship is.

Earthquake energy compared to TNT equivalent.

Energy from explosion is not all absorbed by ground into mechanical energy.

Thank you, that explains what I was looking for.

Makes for a new look at earthquakes , if all the nukes from russia and usa [ decomissioned ] are being stragecically placed ?

Look for Cannikin experiment, 5Mt produced 6.8 mag. earthquake, which corresponds to 240kt. Only 1/20 of energy.

Using energy relationship 1/20 it can be easily seen.
USA has a biggest warhead B83 1.2Mt, which could make only 6.4mag. earthquake. Really small one.

Russia R-36M2 Voyevoda 20Mt, could produce 7.2mag. 5 of them are deployed.

Chinese DF-5A 5Mt, could produce 6.8mag. 24 of them deployed.

Burring and exploding such bombs underground. Hardly a global doom and highly unlikely scenario. Usage of them from above, in really apocalyptic war, that's a real threat.

Try this for an example of what an explosion can do, then do the megaton multiplication. HOW big a tsunami can be created by man , how much bigger can mother nature do ?

Have a think about these nukes possibly being deployed here there everywhere. Boom ,boom, boom. Like the earthquakes in last 2 days , 2 x 8.0+ and the other red quakes on USGS.NUKES could do this .

[link to www.businessinsider.com] I was trying to figure out also what kind of tsunami a bomb can cause. Check out the animation. According to it Russia possesses the mother of all bombs
