Text to Speech

The internet has been around for .. what is it ...

20 years ?

You d think that by now there would be a good, reliable
free, text to speech software,
that everyone could use.

It would make it easy to paste articles in there and play
them in a good, easy to listen to voice.

You could listen to these articles or e mails
instead of straining to read them on a monitor.

I don't know of any ... good.... , free, text to speech

out there on the net ...........

if you do... why not post a link below...........

Re: Text to Speech
My first experience of text to speech:
My friends girlfriend had an older brother who was a computer nerd (mid 80's) & he spent a lot of money on his Sinclair Spectrum. He bought the Currah Speech software package.

We visited one night & he had mastered the technology after many days of programming & tweaking...

First words out of the Sinclair stupor-computer..

"piss flaps"

It was like an hilarious version of 2001 a Space Odyssey.

We spent the entire evening crying laughing & teaching this pinnacle of technological genius how to swear.

Good times!

You d think that Bill Gates would put a good... free...
text to speech voice up on the net for everyone to use

... instead of spending his millions on vaccines for Africa
and other meaningless charities.

He could also put a good, free, antivirus software up there too........
why does nt he spend some money helping to make life easier for all his M soft users ?

Different OS, but you can install both and run a dual boot.

I await the day a 'real' speech to text' is developed.

Re: Text to Speech
I Love Audio Books on a portable MP3 player.

Usually I listen to them while doing some work and I get lost in the book while doing mindless tasks.

Right now ive got The Once and Future King.

But I have all kinds of Alchemy text stuff that is tedious to read but would be great to listen to with real good Text to Speech.

Interesting, looks like I can cut and paste in
some text and get a minute long mpg out of the system
(on a free account )

Better than nothing , but why does nt Bill Gates,
or Richard Branson spend a bit of cash and put up
a free Text to Speech software that everyone can use ?

Branson will spend $500,000 on fuel for his space tourism
...................that's insane and only for elitist Hollywood so called celebs .
( maybe Bill Gates will be on the innaugural flight ? )

Re: Text to Speech
My Kindle has got pretty good text to speech voices
esp the female voice........
I can paste any text into there and it will read it all to me

.... but, computors have been going for 20 years or more
should nt a good text to speech facility be
a basic part of the computor build ?

Or at least there should be some free text to speech software
out there that will read text to a high standard..
e mails, essays, novels.... everything.

Not free, but the best and most natural sounding text to speech I came across (I recommend 'Salli's voice).

massive amounts of text and it will read it back...

( I just posted 3000 words ! )

you can record the reading live with audacity and make
an mp3 file

go here
[link to www.yakitome.com]

check out the Audrey voice.... not quite as good as
Amy from Ivona ... but a good voice nevertheless...

Big up to Yakitome !

There is, its built into Windows 7 and Windows 8. It works ok and can be used for many things as well as dictation. I use it to write my novels of which I have had three published so far.
