It seems to pick up background radiation just fine, but I want to put it near something that will set it off just to make sure it's functioning properly. Too bad I'm not near any of those Bed Bath & Beyonds... It does spike a tiny bit when placed near an open jug of milk, but that's negligible. |
Mad Pole (OP) User ID: 1423464 United States 05/15/2012 12:19 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | In a more recent review, it was determined that medical exposures have increased the numerical average annual dose to over 600 mrem. This does not mean the average person's dose has increased really, but that for people who have been recieving medical exposures, such as CT scans, their dose has increased. In other words, someone who has taken a ct scan (chest x-ray) their yearly exposure to radiation increases to over 600 mrem. ========================================================== In 1992, the average dose received by nuclear power workers in the United States was 300 mrem whole body equivalent in addition to their background dose. 1 chest x-ray is 2x the radiation that a nuclear plant worker recieves. ========================================================== [link to www.physics.isu.edu] 2 chest xrays == 1200 mrem per year equivalent to sitting 30 mins a day near one of these things.
