Johnny is a dick.

He should move to Monaco, or Andorra, or even Uruguay, where there is no taxation on foreign earnings.

PARIS -(Dow Jones)- A majority of French voters support a proposal from the Socialist Party's presidential candidate Francois Hollande to impose a 75% tax on the income of people earning more than EUR1 million a year, a poll by Ipsos showed Monday.

About 57% of French voters said they support the tax rate because "it will contribute to more social justice," Ipsos found, while 42% of voters oppose the tax "because it will encourage the richest to leave France."

That's nice...except for one little thing. People who earn over $1 million a year have a lot of mobility. That means they leave, and the government ends up collecting less rather than more.

The ones who stay find the loopholes they need to reduce their taxes.

Bottom line almost no one who earns over $1 million will pay the tax.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1186203

True, but they would also have less people to take care of as well.

Then used to put down a protest against excessive taxation by whisky producers . IE the whisky rebellion

Of course G Washington sold land granted to him by the king for 30 million dollars after the war. Looks like payola for a job well done to me.

The revoluiton was about rich white men keeping all their lucrative royal concession stands running and convincing stupid fucko's like yourself to bleed and die to make it so. It was about being above the law , making the drones into useless debt slaves, having fun hobbies like rapin negro honeys with no accountability.

Anything good that came out of the revolution for the common drones was purely accidental , or intentional bread and circus to make them compliant and obedient little step n fetch fuckwits for the rich old man party.

I believe the northern Socialist Paradise of Sweden once had a supertax/surtax of 105%.

Yes. They penalized their entrepreneurial citizens by confiscating all of their marginal profits, plus a bit more!

I mean, the sheer effrontery of being successful, and creating actual wealth!

I'm conservative, so I'm in favor of very high taxes on the richest, just as we had in the 1950s under President Eisenhower.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 16091892

They also had double declining depreciation and credits to offset those taxes. Buy a couple of slum apts and they landed up paying no tax at all.

I'm all for the rich paying more taxes and contributing, but 75%?! Really? That's just a bit over the top. 45-50% would be more reasonable, like here in norway.

He already pays taxes to both countries why should anyone be subjected to forking over 75% of their income to the government. Further, he must also pay for social security and Medicare, sales tax and other taxes and regardless of how he earned his money it was honestly and with hard work.

You can add sob stories however do you believe that all citizens should have an opportunity to earn their own money instead of standing there with their hands out expectantly.

Depp did not leave his family behind, as that would have defeated his purpose in avoiding the unfair taxation by France.

Johnny Depp moves back to America to avoid paying taxes in France

However, Depp has now moved his family out of France after government officials asked him to become a permanent resident, as he feared he would end up paying tax in both countries.

I love how the guy challenges the tax attorney to find a law that says we have to income tax. If anyone knows the exact law, let me know.
