Sounds like the emotional state of hostages. Kids especially will follow the demands of an intimidating parent, or the neighbor too a class-A ignoramus might have given in to a threat by that "mother" or had children as well to protect.

Being a single parent is not an excuse for this kind of behavior. My husband and I have 7 children and I know how hard it is to raise kids basically on my own as my husband works long hours. I have been so stressed at times, I wanted to pull my hair out. All parents, one parent home or two, feel this way. Many families have financial difficulties. You do not kill your kids because you are a single parent and having financial problems. Doesn't happen. This mother was not mentally ill. She knew what she was doing and she knew it was wrong. Just the act of calling her children home to finish off the job...she knew exactly what she was doing. My question is, were the neighbors mentally ill or just plain stupid?

This is becoming the norm. It is sad. Each week we are hearing of another parent harming their children. This trend is not going to stop. It will only get worse.

If I were the neighbors, I would have immediately sneaked the kid's out the back and ran with them as quickly as possible to safety, what the fuck is wrong with people, the first action should have been to get these kid's to safety, not let the kid's go back and call 911.

Perhaps she thought she was saving them from whatever she thought is coming down the road. She's a steaming pile of shit, no matter the reason, just trying to get in her head...

I agree about the emotional state of hostages. Foster children, abused children..despite having seen 'better' living conditions, still want to be with their parents/abusers. More than one child has told me "I don't care if they hurt me every time, I still want to be with (insert abuser's name)"
so very sad.

I don't know much about antidepressants but aren't they supposed to keep things like this from happening? Andrea Yates killed her kids because she was taken off the meds...supposedly.

certain antidepressants like prozac have homocidal and suicidal tendencies listed as side effects, however abrupt discontinuation of drugs like this is VERY dangerous increasing the risk of BOTH tendencies.

I was on prozac once for about 3 months. It made me feel like I had no soul/heart/feelings. Very disturbing feeling. I weaned myself off of it slowly and have NEVER taken antidepressants again.

I know, OT, sorry BUT I though guns were illegal in the UK even for sport??? I heard something several years ago that some of the olympic competitive shooters had to travel to other European countries for practice?

Good god, of course not, hand gun's pistols yes, but rifles bolt and semi and shotguns are applied for through a permit system. I have land and therefore applied for and have my shotgun and firearms 1 licenses, if I did not have land then I would have to know somebody that did, and have them back my application.
