I've been sounding the horn about this for a while now, but nobody seems to listen.
Bottom line is, when TSHTF and our power grid goes down, all of our nuclear power plants will melt down.
Not a question of if, but when. And it aint gonna be pretty.
Quoting: Anonymous Coward 23766809 Won't they just take them offline? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 24909641 A reactor can't just be taken off-line. It takes a loooooooong time for the fuel to cool. If the supply of cooling water or the power supply (to pump the water) are interrupted during shut-down, the core melts down. Eevn when reactors are in "cold shut-down" and "off-line", they have to have a supply of cooling water continuously circulated around them or else they melt down. It's a very serious potential problem.
