Short term, it can go either way, but in the long run gold will always be a good thing to own. You never know what is going to happen with paper money, but gold will always have value even after tshtf.

I view this period of time in the gold market as a buying opportunity.

You should always have precious metals in your portfolio, even if just a small proportion.

If gold eventually does go down, that's the price I am willing to pay for having a hedge against economic risk. So I am still supporting a large proportion of precious metals in the portfolio.

The fact that gold was strangely going down at the same time a certain JP Morgan was unwinding a large failed investment, was not something that I felt needed a lot of commentary.

Did JP Morgan sell a lot of its gold position and other better-performing assets in order to minimize its losses for the quarter? You bet it did.

The economic profane & financial ignorant do not understand the direct bilateral trade in currency between Japan (2nd largest econ) & China (3rd largest econ).... its very simple, theres not enuff dollars & credit in circulation to support trade when investors seek safe harbors in bonds, gold, etc. .... their only choice as 2nd & 3rd is to front run the financial\credit instability with direct trade. As such, dollars are freed up to serve as safe haven vehicles during the global rout..... note that gold has been swing trading $15 - $30 oz., and has prolly jumped to the next volatile swing level around $60. As NEGATIVE bond yields (1.51% minus real 7-9% inflation ) decline further due to investors seeking safety in bonds, gold will rise as there is low to no cost to holding gold in negative yield, high cost bond bubble regulated environment...... bonds are becoming scarce, therefore they are bid higher & higher as fear invades the herd & its system..... stocks are now chasing cash, not cash chasing stocks... the QE provides the cash to chase stocks & provide market price supports.... this liquidity, once employed then moves\ is captured to bonds & gold, which, in theory sterilizes the monetary inflation..... however when this liquidity injection spills over into general commods it forces the general price index to rise unevenly. First energy, then metals, then foods, then cotton, etc. When the safety of energy gets crowded & risky, the market moves to the next perceived safe haven commod & begins bidding. This is a major problem for the Central Banks adding direct liquidity to support the market, as the amounts required to stabilize the system would produce unsustainable prices for finished energy & food, etc. The common man would be priced out of consuming food & energy.... thus the slow motion painful muddle thru process of "not to much, not to little." Gold & silver prices must be maintained lower to prevent the masses from realizing the authorities policies of inflation forever.... not investment advice!

The only way that gold could flop would be if someone figured out how to mass produce the stuff.
