what do you do if a mechanic screws you? | |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 1557341 United States 06/07/2012 11:24 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Don't get all nasty yet. The car functioned properly for 300 miles. How do you expect a mechanic to verify a repair? Drive your car 500 miles to see if "something goes wrong"??? He made the repair, took it for a short drive to make sure everything seemed normal etc, then called you. Try being a nice person for a change, and give him the chance to make it right. |

It was having problems when he gave it back to me and I knew it wasn't right. But he said it will be fine just put some miles on it and it will smoothe out. If you rebuild a motor in a car and do it right it shouldn't blow up after 300 miles. It was missing like hell and I could hear it so I'm thinking this dude just doesn't know his shit. |

The cylinder walls are in good shape I don't need to buy another motor. The cat clogged up and melted the rings so I cut the cat off and paid this guy 800$ to rebuild it. Now I'm worried the cylinder walls are damaged due to the knocking in the motor. |

I live in the state of arizona is there anything I can do to get reimbursed? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 17584686 You don't know he did anything wrong. Stuff like this happens. What exactly blew up on the engine? |

Try being a nice person for a change, and give him the chance to make it right. I find your insight and common sense approach refreshing if not surprising in this society of shoot first ask questions later. BTW I am a mechanic. Chances are the mechanic in question did not rebuild the engine himself and relied on the expertise of the local machine shop.More than likely he took it for a few long test drives.I am sure if a complete rebuild was done there is always written warranty on the work order. Usually at LEAST 1 year 12k miles.I wonder what kind of car it was and what was actually done. How many times have I seen a customer complain about a component breaking on their car and they just had EVERYTHING done at the dealership. Turns out they had an oil change done. "But they checked everything over ! " Oh really, for $29.95 they are going to assign their top tech to do a bumper to bumper inspection including using psychic ability to see parts that are going to fail within 500 miles like a water pump , ignition coil ,etc. Heck we just put a motor in a 94 chevy worktruck , 3 days later he calls says it wont start. We check it out , the ignition module went bad. (solid state sealed transistor inside the distributor)I mean shiznit happens.OK rant off now. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 1293547 United States 06/07/2012 11:47 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Just the oil for the crankcase that came in a separate container. Ran straight gas in the engine. It just rattled for a bit then died. I had bought the extended warranty for the unit. So I got the full refund and the price for the weedeater. I may go for a Stihl. |
