In 2001 I prices cabinetry - simple pine and oak - a step or two above MDF and was looking at $3,000 for 8 feet length of base and upper cabinets. Even then the base of the cabinet was MDF (particle Board) with lots of plastic and other trash. As for housing, I think that only the refrigeration units are worth purchasing - they are already highly insulated. then you want to consider a few or several containers to construct a permanent house. Then it makes a lot of sense - and the price drops dramatically compared to traditional stick frame. Thanks for info...after youtubing for 2 hours I think the 20 footer is awesome for me...a single male wanting to live in different parts of the world..it should cost about 3,000 dollars to ship my module home across the atlantic or pacific..just rewire for 220...Now to find places to rent land space....maybe Campgrounds...they are everywhere...in all the cooly towns of the world....maybe ask a land owner for a space.............................................. |

One elegant thing about using a cargo container is that if it is built-out by certain guidelines, then it can be shipped to various continents around the world the most inexpensively. I was thinking of doing this when moving my company from Southern California to Mexico, but time and other constraints prevented me from moving this way, but I still think it would have been an excellent idea for this country. Even if you decide to live in a more conventional building later, the cargo container will still be useful as a workshop, a rental cabin, or limitless uses. Better for countries or areas that are not burdened with regulations that might create problems though. |
