Actually, Cambridge MA is also a place filled with mom and pop stores and resturaunts. Some of them have lasted for generations. Cambridgians really don't go for those factory places you see all over America that serve greasy dead foods under yellow lights. (I know--I've toured the country often with bands in a van.) There are no real vegetables in those places, the management is mean and stupid, the workers mostly fat smokers and miserable and they serve Big Gulps. What a relief it is to get back to Cambridge and real and tasty food. Served by real people working for small companies, many family owned. I worked for the Swiss Alps resturaunt in the 70s. We served cruet a la flamange. ha ha. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 553712 I call people stupid fucks who 1. don't know what Cambridge is really like and 2. use stereotypes to color a whole place. 3. I call stupid fucks people who are stupid fucks. That's allowed in a place like Cambridge, so watch yourself. Also, I'm sure you can get whatever kind of sugar drinks you want in Cambridge. Something like Indian or VietNamese Ice Tea is still the same. Nobody will stop that. That's just stereotyping. No one will go out of business because of a lack of big business (Store 24 etc) Big Gulps. Hospitals and schools in Cambridge banned that garbage years ago for health reasons. It's The Same As banning heroin. People said the sane stupid stuff when the rock clubs banned smoking inside. Now there is sidewalk society and you can breathe in the clubs and not go home stinking. I appreciate you being more polite. and less condescending. So I thank you I just want you to see the nefarious agenda of promoting aspartame and nutrasweet in lieu of corn syrup sodas. Ive seen too many health probs and people recovering after they recognize this poisons effect on their body Its a evil agenda afoot, and not a noble cause to get people healthier but sicker. |

The job of "law-makers" is to make "law". Now that they have written so many laws that they've covered all the sensible topics, they either continue to write insane, stupid laws, or they make themselves irrelevant and put themselves out of a job. It seems the USDA is issuing a loan guarantee to a Louisiana company that makes sweeteners for soda and other food products. WASHINGTON, June 18, 2012 – Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack today announced that USDA has approved a loan guarantee of $25 million to Myriant Corporation to help construct a bio-based production facility in Lake Providence, La. "This project will support the President's "all-of-the-above" energy strategy and create job opportunities for American workers," said Vilsack. "The facility will bring opportunity to an area of Louisiana that has been battered by hurricanes, and has lacked new development. It will also expand a market for farmers." The facility will make succinic acid, which is used primarily as a sweetener within the food and beverage industry. Currently it is made from butane, using petrochemicals, but the new plant will convert grain sorghum, an actual food source and a sustainable resource source, into succinic acid and ammonium sulfate. It is expected to produce 15,000 tons per year of succinic acid and 18,000 tons per year of ammonium sulfate. [link to www.usda.gov] |

At the very least, they should be taking that produce to a local animal shelter, that usually ends up with all sorts of veggie-eating animals to care for. If this is happening in your local area, perhaps you could find a local shelter to ask for that stuff before it gets tossed out?
