Burt Gummer User ID: 7702124 United States 06/21/2012 08:44 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | A woman from Tulsa, Oklahoma is suing the city’s code enforcement teams after they illegally cut down her entire survival garden. Denise Morrison, who started the garden after becoming unemployed, had over 100 medicinal and edible plants in her front and back yard. Quoting: Oldmotherhubbard She told local Tulsa reporters that she started her garden, after becoming unemployed, as a way to feed herself and treat a variety of medical issues. Instead of relying on government handouts, this woman took matters into her own hands and decided to become self sufficient. She filled her yard with things like, fruit trees, berries, nut trees, and a wide variety of edible and medicinal herbs. She used these herbs to treat her diabetes, high-blood pressure and arthritis. [link to offgridsurvival.com] It is like they WANT you to be dependent on the gov't. absolutely ridiculous. $100 bucks says she was growing weed and that is REALLY why they raided her garden. |

I can tell you that she wasn't growing weed because in oklahoma she would be facing up to 25 years for growing weed and she wasn't even arrested :sigjosh: :ronswansontax: “We have allowed our nation to be over taxed and over regulated and overrun by bureaucrats, the founders would be ashamed of us for what we're putting up with.” Ron Paul . “My idea of a perfect government is one guy who sits in a small room at a desk, and the only thing he’s allowed to decide is who to nuke. They're forcing preppers off their land out in the desert. All kinds of stuff going on. They don't want people growing their own food. They want the people to be dependent for the mark of the beast. |

[link to offgridsurvival.com] It is like they WANT you to be dependent on the gov't. absolutely ridiculous. $100 bucks says she was growing weed and that is REALLY why they raided her garden. No, it was all legal plants. She read the code, which said that all plants must be under 12 inches tall, unless they are grown for food. (This would outlaw almost everything but grass!!!) So she planted her whole yard with edible plants. Whether her neighbors liked it or not didn't matter, she was legally in the right. Then a code enforcement person showed up and demanded that she tear the whole garden up. She demanded a court hearing and saw a judge. The judge issued a date for a hearing on the matter, but the code enforcement people couldn't wait. Without any legal right, they trespassed on her property and destroyed her yard. They tore out the plants and cut down the fruit trees. The city is now being sued, and I hope she gets a ton of money. |

If she actually made her yard look presentable (simply keeping it look nice) I wager none of this would have happened. The before pics honestly looked like someone who never did anything to their yard. To the non-garden person it would look like over grown weeds. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 881660 United States 06/21/2012 12:17 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | They're saying it was done by code enforcement teams. These are the guys who come around and look for weeds in your yard, anything but lawn grass in your front yard, indoor furniture outside -- all those things that the city believes will make your place look trashy and lower your neighbors' (and their) property values. I've run into that too, when I planted a plot of meadow flowers and they hadn't bloomed yet -- looked like weeds to the code guys. All you can do is get on City Hall to change their standards so you can grow veggies in the front yard, have chickens, and do other productive things. The Church Lady mentality has got to go! |
