I lived there for 11 years in Amsterdam and 32 years in USA and 4 years in Canada. The brands are different in each store in The Netherlands. Most towns and cities also have separate bakeries, cheese shops and butcher shops and fruits and veggies shops. Also night stores. Also local saturday markets or even weekday markets. You even have specialty nut stores. The food taste way better. No comparison. The prices vary in every store depending on brand you buy. Poor people can get quality food UK has shitty Tesco and all the rest... |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 15257500 Netherlands 06/22/2012 06:36 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Even though most people would label the USA capitalist and The Netherlands socialist the Dutch have much more competition in pricing and products. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 10875142 Having lived there for 10 years I can say the Dutch have better food and lower prices and more competition. If you're poor in The Netherlands you can eat great food. You can even go to the Saturday marketplaces and buy decent cheese and other products. If you buy beer/wine it's much cheaper and tastier. The USA has shitty grocery stores. All prices are the same and the food is all the same products in every store. 3 mega-conglomerates controls the USA food supply. The Netherlands still has alot family farms. I miss Dutch grocery stores. American grocery stores have shit products. Food Lion and Piggly Wiggly are horrible. Publix and Safeway tend to be better run and more imported foods from Europe. Whole foods and Earthfare have best imported foods but unaffordable for most Americans The Netherlands has Albert Heijn, Aldi, C1000, Dirk van den Broek, Hoogvliet, Jumbo and I believe Super de Boer was taken over. Dirk has affordable tasty foods. Albert Heijn is equivalent to Publix but better food and cheaper Euroshopper brands brands Food in the UK tends to be as poopy as in the USA & Canada. Probably all commonwealth countries have poopy food. What are your views on European grocery stores & food versus American grocery stores and food? I would say that southern European countries such as Spain or southern France have better grocery stores then the Netherlands quality wise. More expensive in general though... |

Id look at the girls. the sushi, the funny robots. The cookies shaped like hello kitty. Quoting: ABYSS. Revelation 9:11 lol Japanese grocery stores sound like DA BOMB ! Its a wonderland for kids. Full of strange and fun things. Here in Los Angeles we have a small chain of Japanese markets. It's a member only store, just a couple dollars a year. I think it's due to everything being in Japanese and possible lawsuits because some idiot couldn't read a label. Here's the link just in case you get out to LA or San Diego [link to www.marukai.com] Website is also in Japanese, choose google translate for the locations Just noticed they sell online. Here in LA they have the best prices for anything Japanese. Here is a link to their estore [link to www.marukaiestore.com] |
