A "cancer cure" would almost certainly involve stem cell technology. Contrary to popular belief, there are no breakthrough technologies in this field. It is a matter of large number of scientists doing base level research on both adult and embryonic stem cells. Entire University staffs are working on such projects with billions of dollars for the foreseeable future. Any scientist (and I mean ANY) would love to be part of such a breakthrough team! Even then, "cancer" is, from a biological point of view, a host of cell reproductive processes gone wild. To cure all cancer is like trying to cure all viral infections - it simply does not work that way at the cellular level. As for Clean Water Delivery. This answer, as I am sure you know, FAR easier to accomplish. Again, the problem is capital investment coupled with political will and the means to enforce it. The easiest way is to invest in large aquifers with large redundant pumping stations. The filtration method could be nothing or as advanced as funds would require. The main cost (in political and financial capital) would be running pipelines from where the water is to where it is needed. This could be mitigated by large electrical power plants, but unless it is nuclear fueled, either the initial investment would be extremely high or fuel costs would be extremely high. The political ramifications would be even greater as great clout would be required in countries any such system would cross. Additionally, there would be an even greater problem fighting off those who would take those power plants (regardless of construction type) and utilize them for electrical production first, water second. This would be magnified if the country in question was located without access to the ocean or freshwater aquifers. |

What do you want to accomplished if you have unlimited resources? Unlimited resources? That is an easy answer. I would start by making a list of those things that would advance the human race to an equilibrium. Specifically, the initial goal would be to make sure every human had enough food, water, and protection from the elements. Each would be tackled one at a time, putting people I trust in charge of each project. The second list would consist of those things that would advance humans as a race. Big difference. This would include disease eradication (in order of worldwide death rates). Clean, renewable, cheap power production. Space exploration with seeding colonies scattered about as a goal. I could go on, but I suppose we both could. |
