Lol, keyboard survivalist. You do realize a case of 12 MREs weighs over 30 pounds, right? Your GHB would have to be gigantic. This has to be the worst inventory for BOB bag I've ever heard. No cutting tool, no fire starting, no container for boiling or drinking water... just an overweight pack full of ammo and food that spoils in 6 months when not stored at the proper temperature. |

What is in your Bag? (Guns added page 3) For all you gun fans i will show off my .22 setup. I don't carry this everyday but it would be the first gun bag I grab in an emergency. I am a big fan of the .22 because of the ammo is cheep and small letting you carry a shit load more then other size guns and its also the most common size ammo in america. Quoting: Liquid_Pestilence I love my Ruger 10/22 takedown and little 9 shot revolver. I made the ammo tube out of PVC because it is crush proof and water proof holding about 1000 rounds fully loaded. It also slides nicely into the extra empty pouch provided in the Ruger bag. I also have in there a gun cleaning kit and the tools needed to break the 10/22 down. :22 bag: :22 bag open: :22 assembled: Great idea with the PVC ammo tube, if you don't mind me asking what size PVC is that? |

What is in your Bag? (Guns added page 3) Thanks for making me feel cool :) Quoting: redrosie I use my machete for everything .. from clearing paths to tapping trees .. The big storm last year .. took down two trees behind my car .. one partially on top .. we literally used the machetes to chop the trees to get more gas for the generator .. I'm going to check out the mask you recommended .. I actually have a civilian gas mask in my pack but it is so bulky .. there is water everywhere .. but I live on the Berkshire trail and my plan is to take rvs off trail to my off grid property in upper state Vermont .. as far as I can at least .. I have hooked up with a lot of dudes that will meet me on the trail at some point .. it will be bunker down in the neighborhood or flight .. and luckily the guy across the street has a bomb shelter his ww2 vet father left him .. and with my 2 year stock of food for ten people we would be set to stay .. My biggest fear is living close to Waterbury .. all the bottom feeders will rush my town .. I don't have handguns yet but really need to get a license .. I do have vasaline and pads (female) .. they are good for injuries, starting fires, and I would need em myself ;) I also have flints and a .. hmm .. cant thing of the name two metal rods .. you push one quickly through the other with coal at the end and starts a fire .. also if you through dead lighters in you pack .. make a funnel of toilet paper and flick the dead lighter at the bottom it will start a fire at the top .. obviously anything reflective .. or just a shoe lace .. and also a battery and some brillo sparks up .. I live in a heavily wooded area and always carry my machete .. as far as I know because I always fish in the woods and carry it with me .. is you have to claim you were hunting, fishing, or working .. it is super light weight .. My book does tell me .. let me go pull out my books to tell you the name .. your bug out plan sounds great, do you have all your supplies up in Vermont already or is everything at your house? The one downfall with my plan is everything is at my house. That makes actually bugging out and setting off into the woods a hard choice. I think that in especially new england the beautiful and empty woods we enjoy today are going to be quickly crowded with fools that have no experience or any clue how to survive out there shooting at anything that moves. On the other hand if you live next to a city all those fools are bound to be going door to door in your neighborhood before too long. I wish i had an actual bug out property, that would make things easy. Just jump on the motorcycle and weave your way threw the standstill traffic all the way to the bunker in the woods, perfect. the handgun safety course in CT runs about 100 bucks, gun stores have them every weekend so go sign up. i don't need to tell you how valuable a pistol would be if the SHTF. What is in your Bag? (Guns added page 3) Just found it missing and remember I lent it to my daughters teacher .. they are learning about native American Indian living in this area .. I will wave this post so I can tell you the name .. so specific to the area .. from how to build your hut from saplings to what is native here .. Quoting: redrosie Something I still haven't found in CT that was a major resource and available year round are ground nuts .. they grow underground on a root .. buffalo berries are also something to become familiar with .. My most recommended book to read and love is primitive living, self-sufficiency, and survival skills; field guide to primitave living skills by Thomas J. Elpel .. taught me so much .. Also Indian herbology of North America by Alma Hutchens is good to carry but thick .. The complete guide to edible wild plants, mushrooms, fruit, and nuts .. Katie Letcher Lyle .. is light weight .. and good to check out is New Holistic Herbal by David Hoffman .. Kind of bumming I cant tell you the book I have if you are from CT .. very specific to the area ..my girl isn't home but now I have to go ransack her room making sure she didn't bring it home .. I'm kind of a nerd when it comes to survival, holistic medicine .. off grid living .. I spend a lot of free time trying things hands on and identifing things. There is a nature preserve in litchfield .. white owl I think .. and they always will help me out identifying things .. I grew up spending a lot of time off griding it in Vermont .. so head knowledge rocks .. I am due for some new books to read and i will admit my knowledge on local edibles and natural medicine is not my strong point. I will check out the ones suggested. I am defiantly a nature nerd myself. I feel way more comfy in the woods then I do in civilization. Its peaceful out there away from all the distraction and drama of modern life and a lot more beautiful then the concrete jungle. Knowledge is survival, and by the sounds of it you have plenty of knowledge, you will survive just fine. damn i wish more women were like you. When i do a normal 4 or 5 day hike my full hiking pack weighs in with food and 2 liters of water under 30 pounds. over 40 lbs and its going to kill your body and really slow you down, specially if your not in good shape. When I hiked the appalachian trail my pack without food and water was under 20 pounds and i lived off that 20 pounds for 5 months. you don't need all that gear, it will hurt you more then help you. I have looked into these and think there a great idea but they have a few downfalls in my opinion. I think the aquamira drops are much more useful in treating large quantities of water. If you have to share water that means you need to have the person suck off the same straw your using, that could lead to problems and sharing of germs.
