Bearded Dragons?
My daughter wants a bearded dragon. Can any of you give me some insight on have a bearded dragon as a pet. Cost; how much work; should I buy a young one; older one; etc.

Thanks

Re: Bearded Dragons?
I had one for about 6 months then sold it.. I like the idea of it but got bored of it. Its a good amount of work.. upkeep and feeding and all.

I also had a colony of roaches I was keeping in a bin in my closet for food.. look into that to save lots of $ in the long run.. you want dubia roaches

Re: Bearded Dragons?
Okay see your point. I had an African Savannah Monitor, I loved. The best pet I ever owned. I had to feed it live mice. I had a hard time, feeding it the mice. At my age now, I do not want to do that again, but would love for my daughter to have a reptile. Can you suggest any reptiles which eat vegetables only. No meat.
She really wants one. When I received mine, it was not by choice.

Re: Bearded Dragons?
My friend had a bearded dragon and he would feed it lettuce and cantaloupe, with the occasional pinky mice as a treat. Crickets/roaches will work perfectly fine in place of mice.

I have another friend who has some large snakes and reptiles in a room. He'll go to the pet store and buy some mice for them to eat. For the reptile he will grab the mice by the tail and smash it against the cage then toss it in. For the snake he'll just toss the mice in and let the snake sort them out himself. That is pretty amazing watching him snatch them up and slowly constrict the life out of them. All this while death metal is playing in the background. It's brutal but that's life, eh?

Re: Bearded Dragons?
Had one raised him from a baby. He lived in a large rectangular terrarium, ate live crickets, salad, carrots and other veg.. Also had a special light on a timer.(important)

In the terrarium was soft sand..(no small pebbles)=(dangerous)
large flat stones, as they like to lay on them and sun themselves.

A large stick(wood)from bottom to top and curves sideways, they like to climb up and sleep there in the night.

The cleaning wasn't much, just scoop up the waist.(not much of it)

All in all, I enjoyed watching and handling him, is/was a little sweaty :)

Sadly have to give him to a competent friend, could not transport such a creature across the world.

lots of info and vids on the net about them :)

Chameleons (not anoles) require certain tank set-ups but if done right the tank is gorgeous and the chameleon is amazing to watch. A friend of my daughter's had one, the tank looked like a miniature rain forest. Very nice.

because crickets are fucking stinky disgusting and cannibalistic, not to mention they intentionally drown themselves whenever possible. cockroaches are almost scentless, eat anything and are far more nutritious than most insects.
