In the USA they are only influenced by a few cultural types of music. Bluegrass, Cajun, Hillbilly etc.

In the UK British musicians have easy access to and are influenced by all of Europe plus all the previous incarnations within the British Isles.

Good debate, but hard to dispute taste. Care to mention anybody in particular? We could get a volley going. I have a large arsenal at my disposal, on both sides of the pond & from around the globe. I'm sure we could both learn something & enjoy the barrage while becoming more aware or appreciative. Anyway, why would you try to substantiate one way or another? Are you a patriot or a nationalist?

I do listen to a lot of UK music. Big fan of The Verve, Cure, Clash, Love & Rockets, & even Supergrass as well as Clannad (Moya Brennan is brilliant). Extending the area to the UK or the Commonwealth would make the situation even more difficult for me to substantiate a preference. If I wanted to be all nationalistic or patrioticf, but that wouldn't make me any more loyal to ScAmerika anyway, although I do stand up for the arts & freedom of expression especially in this era.
Recently heard a Public Image Limited concert. Was listening to Kate Bush, The Primitives (new release), & even Transvision Vamp. Occasionally try to catch Annie Mac's show. Today I'm catching new music by Laetitia Sadier, released something apart from Stereolab (a bit cosmopolitan but UK-based). Odd matter about Jimi Hendrix is that he broke out of England, even The Experience with Noel & Mitch were 66% Brit although Jimi did have other substantial material. Even a similar situation with Suzi Quatro.
Have you heard of Savatage? The Pierces? Steve Cropper? Emilie Autumn? L7? Tom Waits? Funkadelic?

How about Frankie Laine? Born in Chicago & he has the number one record of all time in the UK, for the most time at number one.
There are many Blues, Jazz, & Folk artists that really don't get their due appreciation. Orchestra & Symphony are disregarded by too many people but other genres as well really don't get their due.

If that is it then you have to really broaden your experiences to understand my basis.
Another funny thing is that many people would consider popular or great performers American without being aware when they are from other nations, especially Canada. Depends upon exposure, access, & even acceptance or tolerance to really broaden your appreciation.
