I believe you have misunderstood David's post R2B.

I don't think he was putting the guy down, but rather pointing out 2 factors that lead to his getting found out. And possibly, he mentioned these things for others to consider if or when they too might need to bug out.

If he built it further from people, and made his structure physically lower it would be less visible.
