salient effects of unemployment is in the area of mental health with increased depression symptoms, substance abuse, admissions to psychiatric hospitals, death by suicide, and interpersonal violence.

If you have friends or relatives who are unemployed, reach out to them; help them feel valuable and invite them to engage in healthy behaviors, like walking or playing sports. You could be saving their lives.

Depends on how you define taxes, Mr. Liberal. If taxes are fees and expenses put on business by government, they are the highest they have ever been. There are thousands of pages of federal regulations that regulate small business. Let's don't even talk large corporations, because we already know they are bribing the most important politicians (head of GE + President Obama).

Small business has health care expenses. Unemployment taxes. Workmen's compensation. Social security. Figure in a visit from OSHA at 1% of yearly revenue.

You can't make any money. If you somehow manage to make a marginal profit on your start up business, the government will be there to see if you obeyed all the laws. Those passed by Congress, which number hundreds of pages. Or those written by the bureaucracy, pursuant to the laws, that number into the thousands of pages.

What I've experienced with my job is that my wages haven't kept pace with the general price inflation.

Every dollar they created out of thin air devalued the dollar and what you could buy 15 years ago with that dollar, now costs two.

Prices have gone up in everything, but my pay has stayed the same.

My employer can't afford to give me a raise.

So I have to supplement my income somehow--usually in sales--yard sales, craigslist ads, etc.

What is happening is that states, the federal government, city governments, county governments, and international governments are all spending above their means. That means they are coming looking for you, if you are not lazy and shiftless. If you are lazy and shiftless you are valuable only as a voter. If you actually work for a living, they want an increasing percentage of your pay.

They made promises to public employee unions they could not keep. They floated bond issues to build shit. It failed to produce the revenue. They simply wasted your tax $. But they are not apologetic. They want more, so they can spend it to ameliorate poverty and put food in another man's belly. Even though he just got finished fathering his sixth out of wedlock welfare brat.

It's just too late. You can't have as many people on government assistance as you have working -- actually working.
