THe power and evolution of the spirit has a lot to do with how old the spirit is as not all spirits are equal of age.
Most spirits on this planet are young and thus DID NOT HAVE the time to evolve as far as older spirits. Some are older, and very few are what I call ancient. Even the greatest retard among 'ancient' spirits is more advanced than a young baby soul so if you use spirit advancement as a tool for awesomeness.... it really is not as its not much of a SKILL issue but more of a SPIRIT AGE issue.
However if you have spirits of IDENTICAL age, there could be great differences yes. From the word choices you use, I estimate you are a young soul, however your speed of advancement might be faster or slower than the advancement of an ancient spirit when it was as old as your spirit was.

And isn't that the essense of religion.
