What is the origin and meaning of the word " Saxon " ?

It derives from the word SEAX referring to a long knife.

It refers to the Biblical sons of Isaac or the 12 sons of Jacob (his son)

These Saxons migrated after the Assyrians took them captive to NW Europe and were the "lost" 10 tribes that set up the Christian culture of NW Europe.

Christ when He walked the earth explicitly told folks he was sent to the lost sheep of the house of Israel (the lost tribes) and His sheep would hear his voice....

Thus... about 1/10'th of the earth's land mass, NW Europe was Christianized, built cathedrals, etc.

Pretty exciting lineage to be part of.... not perfect, but it's my heritage.

The term was given to Germanic tribes that invaded Ynys Prydain (Britain) by the natives as it referred to the fact that these Germanic peoples carried a particular style of long knife.

Alternately, I've heard the word " Saxon " was used Old High Germanic for " Spear ", " Lance ", or " Dagger " although it appears to have connotation to a blade of some type.
