Quoting: gashman [link to www.latimes.com] I read this yesterday, so I guess we can just chow down right when we catch them as in precooked? " Sonny Liston is nothing. The man can't talk. Quoting: gashman [link to www.latimes.com] [snip] Scientists have found that wild fish are getting skin cancer from ultraviolet radiation. Approximately 15% of coral trout in Australia's Great Barrier Reef had cancerous lesions on their scales. In that regard, they resemble Australians who live on land — 2 in 3 people who live down under will be diagnosed with skin cancer before the age of 70, the highest rate in the world. It's probably no coincidence that Australia is under the Earth's biggest hole in the ozone layer. Researchers hadn't set out to look for signs of cancer in fish. |

Anonymous Astrophysicist User ID: 1311536 United States 08/03/2012 12:08 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I find it highly unlikely the cause is UV radiation since it has so little penetrative power. In a shallow water feeding fish, the cause would more likely be high energy particle radiation. One thing Ive notices in my fishing here is fish tend to stay deep and are reluctant to hit topwater baits as they once did. On a sunny day, you fish deep ( below 4ft) or you don't catch anything. |

Quoting: Anonymous Astrophysicist 1311536 Thank you. I used to work in UV technology and water suppresses the transmission of UV radiation, as do the particles in water, which scatter the UV around. IF the UV from the sun were strong enough to cause cancer on fish in water, we'd be all dying right now. I care and I don't believe for one second that it's UV. Quoting: ExoPoliChick we would have seen this long before now. It'a Fukushima. Period. course its the uv you fucking asshole , the sun is igniting ... its the new phase asswipe You, my friend are an ass-HOLE. ExoPoliChick User ID: 12909685 Canada 08/03/2012 02:01 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | You see, this is bullshit!! Scientists are intentionally misleading the public, probably at the behest of the government. Why? You can have a bank of 40 400W UV lamps that emit 254nm wavelength and when they are submerged in water, you can look right at them, no problem - with the barrier of water between the lamps and your eyes. Lift those lamps out of the water and look at them and I guarantee you that is the last time you will see anything ever again. And that's at 254nm. So, having said this, I call major mainstream bullshit and just one more nail in the coffin that is the Fukushima coverup. Waterbug User ID: 1295673 United States 08/03/2012 02:07 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Interesting fish.. They rush towards the surface when spawning.. and they can change their sex.. [link to www.aseanbiodiversity.info] [snip] Thirdly, the availability of mates is dependent upon local sex-ratios. Coral trouts are protogynous ( i.e . sex-changing) and sex-ratios are naturally female biased (Ferreira, 1993; Adamset al ., 2000). Most importantly however, is that male coral trouts are (by virtue of their larger body size) more vulnerable to fishing gears than female coral trouts (Adams et al ., 2000; Rowe & Hutchings, 2003). If so, the disproportionate removal of male fishes may alter local sex- ratios. Under conditions of intense fishing pressure, therefore, female coral trouts may be more willing to accept heterospecific partners, since they may not be able to find or attract mates of the same species. In this regard, fishing may have an impact on genetic diversity of coral trouts, especially if species- specific catch quotas are imposed. This point highlights the need to consider hybridization in the management of exploited fish species which coexist with close relatives. |
