German Shepherd. Best for beginners if you want a guard dog without actually professionally training it; naturally protective (most).
Quoting: InTheHood You think a GSD is a good one for beginners? The sheer size, strength, intelligence, devotion and protectiveness is good reason to make sure they respond to basic obedience. Especially no, come, down, and stay. Quoting: Nine's I totally agree, they absolutely must learn their basic commands; however, if potential buyers research the lines, there are family bred shepherds with good temperaments that aren't too soft and aren't too hard, they can be easily trained by a beginner that's willing to put the time into it. Some other breeds aren't as easy (can be bull headed, stubborn). And they will be naturally protective, no training needed for that to come out. That's what I meant.
