Twenty-six police officers injured in Belfast clashes Scene of trouble in Belfast Thirteen police officers have been injured in the trouble at Carlisle Circus and Clifton Street Twenty-six police officers have been injured after being attacked by a loyalist mob in north Belfast. Bricks and bottles were thrown as the police attempted to keep loyalists back from a republican band parade at Carlisle Circus. Tensions have been high since disorder at a march in the same area last weekend. Three officers were taken to hospital for treatment and a water cannon was deployed to the area. Diversions are in place and motorists have been advised to avoid the area. 'Significant disorder' Ch Supt George Clarke, of the PSNI, said: "My officers are continuing to deal with significant but localised disorder in the Carlisle Circus and Clifton Street area. "At least 26 officers have been injured with three of them taken to hospital. I am urging all individuals and communities affected to take a step back. Violence has serious and unwanted consequences for all of us."
