Teachers everywhere complain that they should not be evaluated on student performance measures because some factors are beyond their control.

I don't know of any other job, anywhere, where an employee is guaranteed that his review or his compensation will be based on factors entirely within his or her control. Certainly not at a professional level!

This argument should be thrown out entirely, with a slap at them for even daring to utter this idea. Millions of people have lost their jobs for reasons entirely beyond their control. It's time for teachers, especially the old ones, to start to experience this along with the rest of society.

You know what - life's a bitch like this. Shit happens out of your control. Trying to legislate shit out of life, are we? How well do you think that works in the long run?

Shit is like energy. It can change form and it can be passed around, but you simply can't make shit go away. By delegating the shit out of these teachers' lives, you are passing it onto others. The ones being shit upon are the students, because there's a chance true teachers that put their students' well being above their own are looking for jobs in Chitown.

Taxpayers are being shit on too, by the excessively high pay these teachers are getting. Most are not worth nearly that much. They're largely education majors, and back at least when they were in college, you didn't major in education if you had the brians to do a real major.

Teachers are underpaid for what they do today. I am married to one and I see what my wife does. Average teacher has 5 years if university training and compared to other 4-5 year degrees they are underpaid. Some argue that they get two months off in the summer and it is only 10 months of work, what they don't consider is how much time is put into the job during those 10 months. My wife teaches 5 classes a day and has 40 to 45 students in each of her classes. In total she has over 200 students to teach and stay on top of. Every night she is marking labs, quizzes, tests, research papers and assignments. Then she has to plan her lessons for 5 classes the next day. She easily puts in an extra 4 hours of work every night and uses Saturdays to finish off what she can't get done during the week.

Students today are not the same as students before. iPods smart phones, computers, video games, social networking, and instant entertainment are all things that distract many students in school. Teachers now have the job of being semi unqualified experts in parenting, social work, counselling, family liaison work. The problem is shitty parenting where parents spoilt their kids with toys and entertainment and wonder why tests scores are so low. Then everyone blames the teachers. Yes some shitty teachers exist but there are many great ones and for what they actually spin side the classroom and behind the scenes at home they are very under valued.

Oh get over it. Your wife can always fucking quit her job if she doesn't like it.

Oh by the way, I'm married to a teacher that does all that shit but she's not whining about it. My kid gets to go to one of best school districts in Texas and that's good enough for my wife.
