THE INQUISADOR (OP) User ID: 1375283 United States 09/11/2012 05:46 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Almost 6,800 police posts have been downsized since the 2010 UK general election as a result of British austerity measures, according to a House of Commons analysis of updated Home Office figures. Quoting: THE INQUISADOR The statistics show an average 6% reduction in frontline policing across England and Wales. The biggest came in Warwickshire (16%) and Nottinghamshire (13%). But the ultimate goal of cutting spending by 20 per cent, as required by the government, has been reached by only two out of the 43. Shadow home secretary, Yvette Cooper, who commissioned the investigation has said that cuts place the “police and crime commissioners … in an impossible position. Six thousand eight hundred frontline officers have gone in two years compared to the 5,800 that Her Majesty's Inspectorate predicted would be lost over five years. Given the concern over community safety it is no wonder the government is looking for someone else to blame", cites the Guardian. Cooper also attacked the government for blowing £100 million on the first police and crime commissioner elections in November, instead of channeling that money to save police jobs amid predictions of a very low voter turnout in the polls. ming User ID: 1241936 09/11/2012 06:56 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | My other halfs dad owns a fruit farm. Yesterday while picking apples the noticed half the field only had very small apples. After speaking to a neighbour it turns out a van was seen parked and some men in the field, obviously robbing the apples. They got about 40 boxes worth. The neighbour had the license plate, duck knows why they didn't contact the police there and then, or at least ring my bfs dad. The police were called and said there was nothing they can do due to lack of evidence. My bfs dad said he might have to go hunting on his land, and if he sees anyone he might just have to fire over their heads lol. The police warned him against doing that. Back in the day the police would have found the identity of the van owner, got a pic of them, and went round the local grocers with it asking if the person had sold them a load of apples recently. Now, it seems, their hands are tied, and they have bigger fish to fry. They don't have time to spend on the little things, but they still have to fill out dozens of forms for the tiniest things. Less police will make that worse, not better. The police need to be free from time constraints and red tape , so they can do some proper policing. To the poster who had their bag snatched but couldn't give a description and couldn't be bothered to make a statement - watch out, because once the private company takes over the policing, you may find yourself charged with timewasting. Those peoples wages will rely on arrests and results. Bring back local bobbies, men you could respect and rely on to do the right thing.
