I use FreeBSD as an OS on them all and don't have a mic or cam on any of them. Last Edited by Whowasthatmaskedman on 09/14/2012 06:06 AM |

A month or so later my paypal account was hacked. When I ran snoop software which detects programs hijaking your computer it reported that the software that came with the USB tv tuner was trying to access my keyboard. I determined that the keylogger was pre-loaded onto the usb stick. That's pretty clever. It gets distributed all around the world straight from ebay. Who knows at what point of manufacture it gets loaded on. |

Quoting: it's true 14440378 its accesses your keyboard for quick keys to control the device in the USB how else do you expect to be able to change volume and channel? Only if this was allowed internet access could it be sending anyone anything anyway. You should have a software firewall just in case and block almost everything until you need to use it. And also have a physical hardware firewall as well. |

The malware can grab your personal info and send it back for hacking of your accounts. They're not going to be interested in spying on domestics but if they could get the pc's into military, government or otherwise secretive organisations then the eyes and ears function would be useful. |

Quoting: Cahill Seems like my pedanticism has been vindicated. This will not neccessarily help you. Sometimes, the chinese have been known to add a chip to a circuit board (HARDWARE) which can do the spying. So wiping and re-installing is not going to help. It's WAY DEEPER than that. I keep tape over my built-in cam. |

It's free, based on FreeBSD, and is easy to set up, configure, and run. With the ipBlock app you can block all incoming or outgoing traffic to any country on the globe. [link to pfsense.org] |

No doubt some form of malware is installed bought a HP notbooke last year. Ran like a dog, even with top specs. Wiped the drive with DOD 3 wipe process..installed win 7 fresh alongside fedora. ran like a sprinted horse if you buy a pre built computer, laptop, netbook, etc...do yourself a favor and learn how to install an OS, it's simple. |

Isn't that just asking for trouble considering right now China is sided with Russia against our policies Correct me if I'm wrong..but is this not a pertinent questions |

Assuming you're running Windows, download and run MalwareBytes and see if that gets rid if it. [link to www.malwarebytes.org] You shouldn't run with Scripting enabled globally, which is probably how you got it in the first place. If you're not already, start using Firefox with the NoScript extension and only allow scripting on sites that you trust that won't work without it. |
