"In the United States, if you draw a swastika, or say the holocaust was fake, or even dress as Hitler for Halloween, you can get thrown in jail for hate crimes, but its okay to insult the Prophet and religion of Muslims?"
 Quoting: Loadz

No, you can't, and yes, it is.

Is that what people think in Islamic countries? Below is the 1st Amendment to our Constitution. We don't punish people for any kind of speech unless they are inciting violence, and no, criticism of a group of people is not inciting violence. How that group responds is its own responsibility.

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."
 Quoting: ReVbo™

Exactly, especially this part: "or the right of the people peaceably to assemble"

Which is certainly not what has happened in Libya and elsewhere.

The west bombs, occupies, colonizes Muslim countries and then adds insult to injury and they can't understand why things like this happen.

The west must respect Islam and the Muslims as well as their countries. They must know by now that Insulting the Prophet Mohammed and Allah is something that causes them pain. It is not just the Prophet Mohammed that is dear to Muslims but all the prophets of the holy book. From Adam, Noah, Moses, Abraham, Joseph, David, Jesus, Mary and many more are all dear to Muslims.

Just as the holocaust is painful to the Jewish people. Muslims respect this. The west should learn to respect other people's faith since they (the west) know it is a sensitive subject to Muslims.

In the United States, if you draw a swastika, or say the holocaust was fake, or even dress as Hitler for Halloween, you can get thrown in jail for hate crimes, but its okay to insult the Prophet and religion of Muslims?

I don't believe that killing the American Ambassador in Libya was a fair response. He had nothing to do with the video and i am deeply saddened by his death and the two with him. However, the 1.7 million Iraqi people that were killed and 1.5 million Afghani's that were killed also had nothing to do with September 11th 2001.

Obviously certain people are in control of how your society works in America and tell you who to like and dislike. They program you to hate certain people if it is beneficial to them.

Freedom of speech does not equal insulting other religions. Just as it does not equal making fun of what happened to the Jewish people during the Holocaust.

Personally i love the United States but sometimes the U.S government's actions are just predictable and shocking. Every time there's a new president i think to myself: jee i wonder which country they're going to attack next and how they are going to make it look like they didn't start it.

I ask myself, what is the United States (a country all the way on the other side of the globe) doing all the way over in the middle east dropping bombs and killing people for? Why can't they just leave everyone alone? I'll give you an example. I'll pick a random South American country like Chile. Chile keeps to itself and nobody bothers it. They have no business in the Middle East and Middle Eastern countries don't have any business in Chile. Why can't the U.S be like that? There is absolutely no need for any of this.

I know I'm going to get a bunch of racist and hateful replies but i just wanted to explain how i feel about all this and I hope that you see things in a different light instead of through the barrel of a gun.
 Quoting: Loadz

First of all I agree with you on western wars, but I don't see why I am not allowed to disrespect your religion.

Because if you demand respect from me as an atheist then I think you need to respect atheists as well. And hence your religion should not condemn atheists to hell (although a plus point of Islam is that it reserves the worst level of hell for their own followers if they are to hypocritical for your deities liking).

Oh wait.... You are not willing to do that as that would require rewriting the Qu'ran.

So why exactly should I pay special respect to any religious symbol?

In our country, we have freedom of speech. This means that anyone can say pretty much what they want about pretty much anything. This is to open up dialog and allow everyone to have an idea and an opinion. There are things that are said that are offensive and hateful. I may not like those ideas, but I will support and defend the person's right to say them. We must not stamp down on the open dissemination of ideas and thoughts. Why? Because then we start to see more and more speech silenced - it's a slippery slope. I want to live in a country where I can express my ideas and have others do so also. Don't you?

And just because someone says something nasty about Islam does not make it true.

Try to understand that this is one of the most important tenets that our country is based on, inherent to the ideas of life, liberty and freedom.

Not all Americans hate Muslims, only the easily brainwashed or the developmentally delayed. I find it horrific that people can so easily hate one group of people based on their religion. Apparently we didn't learn anything from the holocaust. People always seem to wonder how on ear the people ALLOWED millions of their neighbors and friends to be murdered, well guess what? THIS is how! Brainwashing people to believe that anyone different from ourself is the enemy. What a sad, pathetic world we live in. It certainly isn't the world of MY choosing!

I agree completely. What if that freedom to tell us how he thought was squelched?

This is why it is so important to encourage, protect and defend free speech rights, all over the world, for all people.

Any religion that allows killing should be mocked, ridiculed, taunted until it realizes its a demonic thing and rejects it. If that hurts your feelings, so what. You killing for god is more offensive. This is where you say you haven't killed anything, but generalizations are good for you, so they are good for me.

Hmmmm, you should have used a better example. Bullying, mocking and ridicule falls under the exception to the First Amendment, "Fighting Words". These are words that are likely to induce a person to fight. Do you have a better example you'd like to throw out?

As quick primer, the other side of free speech means we DO place limits on that speech (remember I wrote "almost" all speech?) You can't yell "fire" in a crowded theatre or a shopping mall - this falls under the incitement of "imminent lawless action" (clear and present danger test - look it up). Certain types of obscenity is not protected, nor is fraudulent commercial speech (commercials that contain verifiable lies and mistruths are banned under the First Amendment.

If your 5 year old son is in school and is constantly mocked and ridiculed by others, should the teacher stop the bullies or let it happen for the sake of freedom of speech?
 Quoting: Loadz

Are you comparing Islam to a 5 year old, if so.

HAHAHAHAHAHA. Yeah i suppose it is a bit fucking juvenile!.

Freedom of speech does not equal insulting other religions. Just as it does not equal making fun of what happened to the Jewish people during the Holocaust.
 Quoting: Loadz

Try to understand that this is one of the most important tenets that our country is based on, inherent to the ideas of life, liberty and freedom.

Honestly, I am glad you are asking questions. As you are from another country, I can understand how it may be confusing for you. The interpretation of our Constitution is a very complex subject. I have a grasp on it because I have a law degree.

I know I'm going to get a bunch of racist and hateful replies but i just wanted to explain how i feel about all this and I hope that you see things in a different light instead of through the barrel of a gun.

Even to this day it is the fastest growing religion around the world. When people discover the true Islam. The reality behind the lies that are spread such as the lies that you are spreading in your post, they find truth and convert by their own will. Not because they are threatened.

I appreciate your devotion to Islam, but many of us will never convert because we are just as strong Christians in our faith as you are Muslim.

I never said all will or have converted to Islam. But even the ones that are strong in their Christian faith have converted to Islam. See the video below. A preacher from Texas.

Does the 1.5 million people killed in the Iraqi war make it acceptable for the sodomic gang rape performed on the ambassador before he was strangled? It must be in the Koran, or your allah fearing bretheren wouldn't have done it.

I never said it was justification for killing the Ambassador. Please stop putting words in my mouth. I already expressed my sadness for what happened to the Ambassador.

However, i do not believe that he was raped and strangled. I believe he died of smoke inhalation and the people tried to take him to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

People make up stories to ridicule Islam because they are afraid of it. They add to these stories so they can make a mockery out of Islam. They make worse what is already bad. It is a tragic event and they use it as a tool to spread hate. I believe it is called hate-mongering. Most of these stories are lies.

The Washington times says that lybian news states he was raped and strangled...but whatever helps you sleep at night. Were the other that were killed also die of smoke inhalation before being carefully carted to the local hospital by our Muslim heros in a valiant attempt to save them?

Islam is a scourge. My only hope that this escalates to the point that the gloves have to come off.

I haven't heard of this news anchor gang rape thing in Cairo.

Regarding the U.S Ambassador, i'm telling you that i don't believe he was raped before he died. Why? Because at first news, it was reported he died from smoke inhalation from being trapped inside the burning embassy. Then you look at his pictures, he's dead, being dragged out by people with his pants on and belt fastened. So, from those facts alone and from endless lies by the media year after year I am making up my mind that the sodomy part of the story is fake and i do not believe it.
