"It is like a bank box. We own the vault, but other countries own what is in it. They can put things in and take them out whenever they want to." So for any country wanting to? This is still apart of Norway... but an island above them... some ocean separation from Norway and anyone else really... And I am sure we dont have all the details but that is some planning... and open to not just them but other countries, a bank... Not a bad idea at all... Peace Love to Mother Earth Always |

The store is designed to hold all the seeds representing the world's crops and is being built to safeguard future food supplies in the event of widespread environmental collapse. Those are the reasons that are being "put out"... not about crop failure... it states this... and oh yeah countries getting together putting seeds in a bank because of crop failures happens alot huh? Mack User ID: 62463 United States 01/12/2006 07:47 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | 4891, The element Cobalt is used top build a "Doomsday" bomb by bolting a sheath of Cobalt metal to a nuclear weapon. The atomic blast vaporizes the cobalt and transforms it into a radiaoactive isotope that is very lethal to living organisms, because it is an important nutrient that is needed in very small amounts by living processes. A little cobalt goes a long way; in theory just one ten megaton warhead (and there are tens of thousands of those) could cause the death of all life on Earth if it were fitted with a cobalt sheath amounting to a couple of hundred pounds. Cobalt is a rare metal as metals go, not nearly as comon as copper, iron and aluminum, but there are several dozen tons of it available worldwide. So cobalt is the way to go. The element Zinc could also destroy life on Earth if vaporized in an atomic blast because it too is a nutrient, though not nearly so important as cobalt. Just a trace of cobalt is absolutely vital, so if radioactive cobalt is taken in by an organism it is so close to the working molecules of metabolism that it can kill by releasing neutrons (that's radioactive decay) "at closest range". Finally, cobalt stays radioactive for several centuries, long enough for it to percolate into even the deep ocean. |
BuRn User ID: 62465 Belgium 01/12/2006 07:56 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I have a bit of a problem with the concept "lands wanting to use the seed bank". This way, it will only be the seeds coming from countries who can afford to store seeds in there. So this seed bank will NOT be able to reconstruct crops on this planet. Furthermore : what then about seeds not being used for crops (flowers, trees, other plants...), what about species coming out of the rainforest? I dunno. The idea seems good, but the way it is explained here... Some very big flaws in the concept. I do ask myself wether it is the concept which is bad, or is it the concet which is bad explained? (I guess it will be the last one...) GreetZ, BuRn |
Earth420 (OP) User ID: 260 United States 01/12/2006 08:06 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Yes, some of you know of my beliefs... and yes I have seeds in my kit... including... those seeds that if you get caught with are worse then having a pound on ya.... I just suggest we have our own seeds... anything we can store away and have... it wouldnt hurt you know? Good to have a kit with everything else needed too as well people...In these times... Sounds like this "bank" will only be available to people/countries that pay and get when they need type thing????? Thats one of the only flaws I saw with it but still...
