You're an idiot. So I will take this nice and slow. Weeds grow in fields with crops in them. You want to kill the weeds but not the crop. So they make crops that will not be hurt by roundup. If they did not do this you would have nothing to eat and be dead. Question: How do you feed all the people in the world if you use 1960 farming tech. Answer: You don't, you have mass starvation. On the other hand [link to www.stwr.org] "The increases in crop yields that Monsanto has shown in Mexico, Romania, the Philippines, Hawaii and India are actually not yield increases at all. In scientific terms these are called crop losses, which have been very cleverly masqueraded as yield increases. By indulging in a jugglery of scientific terminologies that take advantage of the layman’s ignorance, Monsanto has made claims based on evidence that does not exist. As written in Monsanto's article: “The most common traits in GM crops are herbicide tolerance (HT) and insect resistance (IR). HT plants contain genetic material from common soil bacteria. IR crops contain genetic material from a bacterium that attacks certain insects.” This is true. Herbicide tolerant plants and insect resistant plants do perform broadly the same function as chemical pesticides. Both the GM plants and the chemical pesticides reduce crop losses. In fact, GM plants work more or less like a bio-pesticide - the insect feeds on the plant carrying the toxin, and dies. Spraying the chemical pesticide also does the same. In the case of herbicide tolerant plants, the outcome is much worse. Biotech companies have successfully dove-tailed the trait for herbicide tolerance in the plant. As a result, those who buy the GM seeds have no other option but to also buy the companies own brand of herbicide. Killing two birds with one stone, you might say." |

Ask anyone who smokes fine cannabis the difference between the commercial shit that is full of pesticides and synthetic nutrients and the organic sensimillia - there's a reason why the commercial stuff is less than half the price. Food is a lot like that. I think what you are missing and what the original poster is alluding to is the fact that NOTHING BUT THE MONSANTO crop CAN survive because they invented a chemical that kills everything but their genetically modified version. This means that no one would have any alternative BUT to eat Monsanto crops since they have effectively made it so that theirs are the only ones that exist. Monsanto just spent 17 million bucks in California to fight a recent proposition to require retailers to label GM ingredients in products... I wouldn't doubt if they allocated some more of the money that they spend on projects like that at the corporate level on hiring anonymous posters to do damage control on their reputation in popular forums... Know what I'm saying? |

Good post. People don't understand. The crop is poison resistant but your body and tummy aren't! Your eating poison and ya'll think that is okay. There is reason why you can't spray round up on normal plants. Would you take a bottle of Round up and spray it on your food before you cooked and ate it? No because its poison but that is what GM are. Go ahead and enjoy your cancer and diabetes because your going to have it. |

Roundup may cause sterility and miscarriage [link to farmandranchfreedom.org] "This previously unknown organism is only visible under an electron microscope (36,000X), with an approximate size range equal to a medium size virus. It is able to reproduce and appears to be a micro-fungal-like organism. If so, it would be the first such micro-fungus ever identified. There is strong evidence that this infectious agent promotes diseases of both plants and mammals, which is very rare. Pathogen Location and Concentration It is found in high concentrations in Roundup Ready soybean meal and corn, distillers meal, fermentation feed products, pig stomach contents, and pig and cattle placentas. Linked with Outbreaks of Plant Disease The organism is prolific in plants infected with two pervasive diseases that are driving down yields and farmer income—sudden death syndrome (SDS) in soy, and Goss’ wilt in corn. The pathogen is also found in the fungal causative agent of SDS (Fusarium solani fsp glycines). Implicated in Animal Reproductive Failure Laboratory tests have confirmed the presence of this organism in a wide variety of livestock that have experienced spontaneous abortions and infertility. Preliminary results from ongoing research have also been able to reproduce abortions in a clinical setting. The pathogen may explain the escalating frequency of infertility and spontaneous abortions over the past few years in US cattle, dairy, swine, and horse operations. These include recent reports of infertility rates in dairy heifers of over 20%, and spontaneous abortions in cattle as high as 45%. |

Why make a weed killer that kills weeds and the crops too, that's not very scientific, isn't the weed killer supposed to kill the weeds only. Kind of like using a sledgehammer to tap in a nail, IMO. And if those crops that will not be hurt by roundup go on to harm people by causing cancers that kill them, or birth defects, then I guess its just the price we will have to pay. Those nice people at Monsanto certainly wouldn't set out to harm anyone, would they? And with all their scientific research and being world experts in the subject, there is just no way they could possibly know the dangers of GMOs. Any research that says their crops cause death must be wrong. Now, where's my dunce cap. You're not an idiot, most of us here can see what's going on. |

Yes thats the GM sales pitch but sadly it does not line up with reality. GM crops sometimes have higher yields But GM crops have led to an even higher use of herbicide (Fact) Round up ready crops contain glyphosate and other chemicals in ever growing numbers because they have to keep using more and more.
