This is true. Herbicide tolerant plants and insect resistant plants do perform broadly the same function as chemical pesticides. Both the GM plants and the chemical pesticides reduce crop losses. In the case of herbicide tolerant plants, the outcome is much worse. Biotech companies have successfully dove-tailed the trait for herbicide tolerance in the plant. As a result, those who buy the GM seeds have no other option but to also buy the companies own brand of herbicide. Killing two birds with one stone, you might say."

I think what you are missing and what the original poster is alluding to is the fact that NOTHING BUT THE MONSANTO crop CAN survive because they invented a chemical that kills everything but their genetically modified version.

This means that no one would have any alternative BUT to eat Monsanto crops since they have effectively made it so that theirs are the only ones that exist.

Monsanto just spent 17 million bucks in California to fight a recent proposition to require retailers to label GM ingredients in products... I wouldn't doubt if they allocated some more of the money that they spend on projects like that at the corporate level on hiring anonymous posters to do damage control on their reputation in popular forums...

People don't understand. The crop is poison resistant but your body and tummy aren't! Your eating poison and ya'll think that is okay. There is reason why you can't spray round up on normal plants.

But GM crops have led to an even higher use of herbicide (Fact)

Round up ready crops contain glyphosate and other chemicals in ever growing numbers because they have to keep using more and more. To top that off its damaging the soil and it strips the plant after spraying of several nutrients and minerals from the plant.
