Custody Extension is NOT being passed through either the PPACA or HCERA.

The Dependent Coverage for Adult Children mandate of the PPACA is very specific. The mandate ONLY applies to group health insurance plans... NOTHING ELSE. in addition the Adult Child mandate ONLY applies if the plan is designed to offer dependent coverage of children. So if an employer did not offer child coverage prior to September 3, 2010, the plan is not required to now offer dependent child coverage. However, if the plan does offer dependent child coverage the plan must make coverage available until the child turns age 26. With regards to GRANDFATHERED PLANS, the mandate provides a special transition period where Plans are not required to provide Adult Child coverage until January 1, 2014.

OP not only does not know what the Dependent Child Mandate is of the PPACA but also misrepresents Grandfathered plans. The OP is either a dumb-ass or is lying to create fear.

You know I agree with this to some extent. I hate seeing men used for their money..and I am a woman. Its not fair to leave a man for selfish reasons and then expect to be paid and keep the kids...but it happens all the time. I have seen it the other way too..If the man has a bunch of money he leaves and takes the kids cause he can afford to pay for that good atty. I think it should go back to a fault system and the person who is at fault should pay and not get full custody. JMO!

Absolutely not. The PPACA addresses the Age 26 mandate very specifically. Code %152 (f) Children. Code %152(f) defines child as a son or daughter stepson, or stepdaughter of the taxpayer. or... an eligible foster child of the taxpayer. This definition is used when determining the taxability of employer provided coverage for children under 27. Code %105(b) Dependents. Code %105(b) dependents include an employee's "qualifying Children" and "qualifying Relatives" using slightly modified versions of the definitions of those terms that would be used to identify an employee's tax dependents. Therefore under these provisions of the law individuals such as grandsons and granddaughters are not required to be covered to age 26 under the Dependent Coverage for Adult Children mandate.

you could request that the CS monies go to a representative payee - theres volunteer (free) agencies in every city that do this.....THEY disburse the money to the mother - how?

by paying bills direct.
rent/shelter for kid? paid to landlord
utilities for kid? paid directly to utils
food? - shopping mart giftcard and mother must provide receipt to agency
cloths? - giftcards - mother must provide receipt to agency
transportation? bus passes issued
your car/transportation - gas card issued - must provide receipt

Excellent program. Wish it had been around when i was making my payments to the bitch. And you are correct... my daughters never got the benefit of those payments. But the ex wore Victoria secret, drove BMW, had cosmetic surgery of disgusting face, tit job, belly tuck, vacations...etc. My daughters only got nice things when I gave them.

Second-you nailed it. What people don't understand is that once a child from an unwed couple takes any government assistance (usually Medicaid from a hospital visit) DHR/Social Services will go after the dad like a hawk.

Once they get him, they establish paternity, mandate child support (even if the mother didn't want him in the life of the child and never wanted him to know).

Once child support is mandated, the dad faces losing his driver's license, going to jail and constant court fees and monitoring-control by the State.

At 26, it is possible the check will be going to the "child" and paid into arrears to the State (50% is interest on missed payments while he wasn't aware he had a child) after past child support is paid.

That way, no one ever gets out of the control of the State or is relieved of an obligation imposed on them which they had no idea of to keep paying the State interest and penalties.

I'm not arguing that... it's the law of the land and everybody will better off understanding it to their advantage instead of bitching about it. I am saying this thread's premise that the the ACA has passed a law which extends the child support to age 26 is completely wrong.

Yeap...I married a whore and had that life of paying child support for 14 years. Needless to say I got custody of 3 of them. She ran off lives to Florida and has contracted Aids. God is just and fair!
