Re: TO THOSE WHO ARE....."MORE EXPERIENCED"......
IMO, we could actually see what shape we were in back in the 1970's. Vets weren't on benefits for Post Tramatic Stress Disorder staying at home where you didn't see them. They were outside the exits at the grocery store with limbs missing, every grocery store, every trip. I remember this as a child. We actually SAW some of what war caused.

Gasoline was expensive for the times, we SAW lines backed up on the main roads just to save a few cents over a station charging regular prices with no lines. We SAT in line to save. We didn't just complain and get a ride and post on the net, not that this is bad I'm just pointing out that things were either much worse then or we have a veil of out of sight out of mind nowadays. Food stamps are on a card so we don't know who has them at the check out, out of sight out of mind.

In the 80's some people were still paying 18% on their mortgages, even loan officers in their 40's aren't aware they were ever that high but they were.

The big thing was that even though most of the time if you are around your own "class" you don't know you're poor if everyone around you is poor. Now, a relatively poor person can pass as non-poor because of car loans being more available (and in some states, welfare actually paying for new vehicles-pfft). In the 70's if a friend got a new car it was a bigger deal, now it's just an average "brag"--even if you get a cool car nowadays it isn't as big of a deal as having a new PINTO in the 70's.

There are some poor people today who I really believe aren't aware that they are poor financially and actually pass as middle class. That's good in a way but also kind of bad because these same people get uppity with people who take better caution with their money and these same people complain about the poor when they are too. If they can be grateful then it's good they are able to live a better life than they would have in the 70's.

These are what crossed my mind immediately with your question, OP. I don't think we are as bad off in our reality as we were in the 70's but it seems we are heading there. It's also possible that we are worse off but that TPTB have found a way to make it invisible to most of us (only visible to those affected).

A book, Patriots by James Wesley Rawles is what's in order. What it will be like.

I guess it's understandable. I can understand a personality like mine getting on some peoples nerves.

But, I am not going to change because some people don't like me. If they don't like it, they can avoid my threads.

Re: TO THOSE WHO ARE....."MORE EXPERIENCED"......
I am wondering, are things as bad as some seem to think? I am only 27, so I have never lived through more gloomy times than what we are going through now. But, a lot of you lived through the cold war, vietnam, the carter admin. The 60's and 70's were a crazy couple decades. Some of you even went through ww2 times.

So after seeing all you have seen, is our current situation really "that bad?" Could this really be "end times" Or at least the end of the U.S? Beginning of a NWO?

Is our economy really worse than it was in Carters time? Are there more rumors of war now than during the cold war?

Please shed some light on how you feel about our current situation in comparison to other hard times..
 Quoting: *Heisenberg*

I lived through the "Cold War" and Viet Nam. It is worse now than it has ever been. There are too many people needing food, fuel and resources. The competition and jockeying for position is stressing every one. The western world's lifestyle is richer and so people have more to lose. At least during the cold war there was the space race which gave everyone hope and something to look forward to. Once we were successful we stopped teaching our kids, so they have less of a sense of belonging to a larger society and look more inwards at their own desires. We are faced with a medieval enemy, that we foolishly allowed into our world and gave them modern arms. We are living in a shadow of the dystopian Orwellian prediction where no one dares speak their mind, and suffers stress for it. We have powerful computer systems that allow the players to play a bigger and more dangerous economic game. Gold is no longer money, just numbers in computer data, which can be manipulated at a whim. Things are much much worse than they have ever been.
