Epic Beard Guy User ID: 1079209 United States 10/01/2012 12:05 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Deleting what's on your computer won't make your data on Pirate Bay's records disappear. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 24751546 No it won't BUT if and when they do search your home/office computers and they do not find it on there it will look better for you. Hell you may not even get charged. - Sara The G-men can get it off your hard drive even if you delete it. That's why thermite is your friend. A little thermite will make sure that nothing on your hard drive is recoverable. Just back up your important files, and then replace the drive. Take the drive out to the back yard and pout some thermite on it. Try to get some in it too. Thermite will turn it into a puddle of moltem metal. It is impossible to recover data from a melted drive. Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst. "America is at that awkward stage. It's too late to work within the system, but too early to shoot the bastards." -- Claire Wolfe |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 23388179 Canada 10/01/2012 12:12 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Deleting the files won't matter if the government comes to get you. The only reason they would come for you is if they already had the evidence from your ISP and the traffic data showing you were sharing pirated data. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 14011374 Anyone still using torrents is a fool. They don't come after you for downloading the data, it is distributing the data that causes them to come after you. The smart pirates moved on, or never left, news groups. The news groups usually have movies and does before the torrent sites anyway, and since you are only download you have less to worry about for now. In fact, if your ISP has a news group server and you get posted info from their server, they are the ones actually distributing the data, so a legal defense MIGHT be able to be built around that, if you have a good enough lawyer. Lol. Agreed 100%. Newsgroups are the greatest. I went from using Mirc to using newsgroups so I've never really use any kind of torrent except in some extremely rare cases. Not only do Newsgroups have everything torrents do, you can d'load everything at the full speed of your internet connection. With torrents your speed is based on the people sending you the file. If only one person is seeding a file your trying to download and he only sends info out at 30kb/s, your only going to be able to d/load at 30kb/s but with newsgroups it's full speed, ALL THE TIME!!!! The only thing I've had problem with is d/loading xbox game backups. You have to get them as soon as they come out because they get removed from the servers after a couple of days. More and more PS3 games are like this as well. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 24474765 United States 10/01/2012 12:19 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Sara said that she got 8 calls at her ISP regarding IP addresses. I trust that is true. The corollary - that they're "coming to get you" may or may not be true. If you wish, clean up your act - put multiple copies of all valuable files on separate drives and/or disks OFF SITE and in non-obvious places. Put incriminating(whatever that is) evidence of ??? where the sun don't shine, and get on with your life. FEAR has it's place as a warning. After that, it's not useful. Anger at killing off useful info is more helpful. After that, see what you can do to help share info about everything. A legitimate society needs very few secrets. We are entering a time of heroes and cowards - be the former, not the latter. Pick your battles, but never shrink from your principles. |

In that order? well, so far that's the way they've been doing it. but, recently, they've been getting a back-log, so they've been fast-tracking some of the people in the electric chair. |
