Yikes, they are doing an Emergency Response Exercise..

I have a huge issue with the going door to door in a residential area its really none of there business.

They are all condos or apartments in this area, no single family dwellings as I am in the heart of the city.

I can see why they would want emergency plans for the buildings.

What I don't get is why they are doing this now, never been done before.

Are they expecting trouble or just being good little scouts and being prepared.

Yesterday when I went for a walk, there were 3 different sections of sidewalk pushed up by the underground streams that run under my neighbourhood.

Great for kids needing a ramp for their bikes or skateboards, not so good for walkers.

The sinkhole in my backyard is dropping at the rate of about 1" per week.
Doesn't sound like much, but it went from flat land to big hole in less than a month.

The GAS leak testing surprised me. Are they expecting earth shifts that will break piping or are they testing response times for other types of gas leaks.

They don't state if they are talking about natural gas or some other more nefarious gas leak.

Oh I see that does at least make sense I dont trust the goverment or anything they do so there expecting well thats my pov anyway.

well it sounds like your area is having issues such as sink holes. gas lines are typically underground so i can see a potentially dangerous situation there. it seems pretty clear they're doing what they can to look out for your interests. but, i'm sure they're just conditioning you for the coming alien takeover

I have been tracking the sinkhole in my yard with photographic evidence, just in case it develops into a fast way to travel to China, lol.

I live in a flood plain, with many underground streams, so it is somewhat worrisome.

I do not mean in any way to be passe about your sinkhole issue, they're being monitored closely, but what interests me (and others) most at the moment is the emergency response exercises and how they may relate to the US military exercise rolling out today concerning the same, may or may not be related.

You wont learn anything to help your entirely different situation in Canada.

While it is certainly a serious situation in Assumption....that thread is useless for a month now.

I did not know about the emergency response testing by the US military.
Coincidence or ??????

It goes down Wednesday morning, I will advise if any military are involved in the exercise or if it is just local emerg teams.

The thread was about the emergency response drill they are conducting on Wednesday in regards to gas leaks.

I assumed that they problems with the underground streams were one of the reasons for doing the drill. Upheavals can cause pipe breaks and thus gas leaks.

But now, I am wondering if there is another reason for the gas response testing.

By the way, it makes me nervous as I live precariously close to a high level virology lab. One that houses some pretty nasty stuff.

Madame X--- I am not trying to scare you but you are aware if you are developing a sinkhole IN your backyard...that your home is probably sitting on top of a giant sinkhole and could be swallowed up at any time. PLEASE..HAVE SOMEONE COME CHECK IT ASAP...and check the records for the grounds upon which you're home sits
.and for petes sake BE CAREFUL.

I am aware that my home sits on top of an underground stream area.
But, the house has been there, rock steady since 1912 with no shifting thus far.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed and am keeping an eye on the sinkhole.
Maybe I will give the city a call, just in case. The sidewalks on my street are heaving at an alarming rate.

I'm still watching that stupid hole, every time I go home I check to see how much it has sunk.

I think I'd make a point to be out of town that day. I hate door to door stuff. We had someone doing a door to door thing about the American Census deal about a year ago and the guy tried to come into my house claiming that he could take down all my answers and it would be fast. He didn't get it that it wasn't a matter of time.. it was a matter of me refusing. That did not go over well.

My immediate concern for the sinkhole would be that you might have a water leak. Just a thought. Our water main had a very slow leak and it showed up as a very small sink hole about a foot away from the pipe. Gone unchecked I'm sure it would have gotten larger. Once we got things fixed it was no longer a problem.

Tell them that in the event of a GAS leak, you'll be SMOKING ALL AVAILABLE CIGARETTES AND NARCOTICS.

If you're a psych or sociology major in this day and age, you're likely at the bottom rung of 'higher' education. To dumb for engineering, medicine, or nursing, to lazy for a trade school, and not articulate enough to major in English.
