But why would Russia not want humanitarian corridors to be set up? Are they happy to stand by and watch as innocent civilians are slaughtered by Assad's thugs?

we firstly because we in the west lie, when we say humanitarian corridor what we actually mean is somewhere on land to land heavy weapons in and launch attacks, which of course when fired back at in retaliation hit the refugee camps carefully positioned around the fighters.

Also, because so far all the evidence is that these freedom fighters are in fact "bused in" and not Syrian at all (even the BBC admitted this).
So, flip it around, mercenaries land in the UK, start laying waste to the south coast, are you seriously not expecting the British Army to respond with everything it has ?
Finally, we saw in Libya that humanitarian corridors = regime change, all you need to do is state that whatever action is justified as the target was a threat to the corridor.

Well yeah, but Assad is probably more than willing to turn a blind eye to Turkey's actions against the Kurds, so it doesn't directly affect the civil war and isn't seen as intervention.

Assad gave autonomous rights to the Kurds of Syria when Turkey was found helping FSA. The moment that the Syrian Kurds will declare their official autonomy expect a Turkish reaction/invasion to avoid such an outcome. Hows that not related in your book? Why do you think Turkey is pushing for safe-zones? For humanitarian reasons? This is a big part of the play in Syria among others.

Any "October surprise" seems likely to be aimed at hitting Al Queda in Libya. Easy operation compared to Syria or Iran, and easily justified since killing an ambassador is an act of war.

The shit will hit the floor very soon. You dont send in shitloads of warhips close to a country if you are up to something.
