I would say middle class starts at 80K and I would put lower middle class from 50 - 80 K.

Of course it's all relative to ones local economy.

You can be rich and make very little. Having a rich life has nothing to do with money.

When you aren't living in fear of losing your home, earning enough to cover your bills with no need to rely on government assistance. Being able to feed your kids healthy food and pay for their athletic and art programs and knowing they will be able to go to college. Being able to take an annual vacation. And having savings put away for a rainy day and retirement.

Wish this for everyone.

If you think your happiness depends on the personality in your wallet you might want to think about your values and what is really important. My kids are healthy, my immediate family is whole and there is love....what more could a person want? Money is stupid and a farse...even if you had a million dollars you would not be happy because your values are all messed up....

But the question was just what is your definition of middle class. Not what are your values.

Like u said, it's all relative. I have a cottage and huge pole barn on 5 acres on one property (paid off) and another big 4 bed, 2k sq foot house that's been recently remodeled. I support my wife & 2 kids.....and make less than 30k. We have $$ in savings and cycle thru a month's worth of backup food.

Does all this material shit matter? No. It is what it is, and you can't take it with you to the grave.

im not sure what middle class is anymore. But i have decided this. When it comes to net worth debt needs to be subtracted. For example I am poor. But i do not owe this gov't any money. No loans, no credit cards, i own my car...etc. So arent i rich in a way?

Boring fuckers that tow societies line. An independant thought is highly unlikely from them, as it frightens them and they refrain from ever thinking it again. They are the "bread and butter" of modern democracy.

Well given the dynamics of the local economy in San Diego:

Lower Class: 0-30,000
Upper Lower Class: 40-50,000
Lower Middle Class: 50-65,000
Average Middle Class: 65,000-95,000
Upper Middle Class: 95,000-125,000
Lower Upper Class: 125,000-200,000
"Rich" (A solid foothold in the upper class bracket): 200,000+
"Wealthy" (The infamous 1%): 350,000+ minimum.

Keep in mind this is what the class bracket in Southern California look like based upon my experiences and observations over the years.

BTW that is total household income with one or two children to support.

I agree. To me, middle class is being able to comfortably pay your bills and save away for the future with having some funds left over for fun once in a while.

The "rich" may be able to do these things to, but not as humbly. The "poor" obviously struggle to do any of these.

I consider myself middle class. My house, my vehicles, and all toys are paid for. Within the past 2 years I have managed to get to zero debt and it feels great.

Income levels are not a determining factor of what makes me feel middle class.

I have older relatives and friends who make much more money than myself, yet are in debt out the wazoo.

All of the talk of the coming doom made me work my ass off to get out of debt so I have a chance to get through the next 10 years.

I think she defined middle class values--at least traditional wholesome middle class values--the ability to be content to raise healthy children in a whole and loving family --which she contrasts to an insane dependence on money as a measure of personal worth.

How can you equate values with financial class? Like only the middle class has traditional moral values? That's bullshit. Shitty people come out of all classes. Happy, healthy, loving homes can exist in any class!
