Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Unique Science outpost under Lake Baikal's Surface could be able to predict local earthquakes. According to a news post on our national weather service page that is called Gismeteo. The article is in Russian so Google Translate is needed. [ link to www.gismeteo.ru] A new science station will be built and submerged under the lake surface to study many parameters, temperature, currents, etc. The most interesting thing that caught my eye though, is that it should be able to study electromagnetic waves (as it is stated in the article) to possibly predict earthquakes in that unstable and seismically active region up to two days in advance! That sounds rather amazing! The scientists started to plan such a science outpost when they noticed sudden electromagnetic changes around the large lake before an earthquake hit that general area. What are your thoughts on this matter? Is it just another regular science outpost, or will there be something more, possibly connected to a side of geoactive electromagnetism we (the general public) Do not know about. Usually us Russians never do anything without a very good reason. Especially submerging very expensive scientific equipment into one of the largest and most mysterious lakes on Earth. If any foreign minister begins to defend to the death a "peace conference," you can be sure his government has already placed its orders for new battleships and aeroplanes. |

I would not mind bumping this up a little to catch your attention.
