World Biggest Tsunami Wave, Some pics

Very old news OP.. but the videos show the beautiful landscape at Lituya Bay... nice to see again.

sry was not attempting to make it seem like new news, only posting a story that was worth reading. It seemed to me it does not have to be a great event, ie large earthquake, pole shift ect, to set off a tsunami. Since EQ that set this off was 7.7 and a tsunami of this size could do a lot of damage anywhere in the world but off the coast of very populated area would be catastrophic, especially with the waves reaching 7 miles inland as this one was said to do, according to pictures of trees broken

The wave came out of the lower part, and looked like the smallest part of the whole thing. The wave did not go up 1,800 feet, the water splashed there."

Correction on your thread title OP (yes I know that is the title of the article as well, but it is inaccurate.

That does not mean the wave was 1720 feet high.

The water reached that elevation on the outcrop directly opposite Gilbert inlet by inertia and momentum.

The wave as it traveled was about 100 feet high.

By the eye witness accounts taking in the time elapsed and the distance of the bay, the wave was traveling at approx 100mph.

The amount of water being displaced by the energy of the wave would run the water up hill, reaching the 1720 foot mark, which is evidenced by the damage of the tree line on the outcrop directly opposite the rockfall.

As the wave traveled towards the spit, the elevation of the new tree line growth drops, thereby proving that the wave itself was not 1720 feet high.
