Have a psychological evaluation to see if you're diagnosable as Asberger's syndrome (on the autism spectrum). You can also see about getting some social skills training. There really are rules you can learn that will help.

Many high tech employers accept quiet people, but there are easy ways to become comfortable with being less quiet.

What? Employers love quiet people. Well, unless you're in sales or something that requires good social skills. My managers love the quiet workers because they are the most productive workers.

Well, I don't know how it is in Canada, but if you have any kind of disability that is causing you to have poor social skills, their are laws that they need to provide you reasonable accommodation -- see if a pro bono lawyer can help you. Good Luck.

Screw what some crappy employer thinks you should be like. If you don't fit his image of what a model employee is like, fuck him. I was fired once for "not being a team player" too, meaning I kept to myself and worked silently all day. Fortunately I have an employer now who doesn't give a shit because I WORK HARD AND DO MY JOB WELL. That is really all that should matter.

You could always apply for a job in the local library.
