Misspelled the first post title. The thing is dangling off the side of a building really high up. Can't see it lasting there to long. On CNN now.

I just find it hard to understand why they would have kept that thing upright like that with the week's worth of warnings. Must have been to costly to move it down....now look at what they will be spending on it. If that thing breaks loose that could be some bad damage.

I saw two cranes on a building when looking at some news pictures this morning and wondered how long they would last.

DirecTV has full-time Sandy coverage. Ch. #325

I first heard it on there. They are now evacuating several buildings around the crane, as they feel there will be NO WAY to get it down, as putting a second crane up to try to dislodge it will only put THAT one in danger, too.

While the local reporter was moving back, per police orders, she freaked out by breaking glass in buldings around her - NOT RELATED TO THE CRANE DOOM - just b/c of Sandy.

It IS real.

It's gonna get real wild, folks!

The storm appears to be a damb squib

High winds not make it to surface levels.

Angle of winds saving the day.

I karma pinned this thread, because if that fucker falls, its not going to fall its going to fly fuckin' sideways into adjacent buildings.

They're telling people if they live nearby this to get down to a lower floor of the building they reside in.

Streets are blocked off around the area below in anticipation of the thing falling, and that thing I bet IS going to come crashing down...

The cheapest condo in that building is 7 million. Prime minister of Quatar is buying the 100 million condo in that building.

People are being evacuated from nearby buildings.

Not exactly easy to take down that high up. Even with all the weather warnings they got, there's no way they could take it down in a week.

The Big Apple has already had a few high rise crane accidents in the past -- so it's kinda dumb that they didn't safe that thing in the face of this storm.

Crane is made of very high gauge steel. It will only bend and not break or collapse. If it did break the body of the crane with the cables would support the falling structure with said cables. Media tends to sensationalize this stuff.

I used to be Crane Operator, I know what im talking about.
