Long Island NY pays highest property taxes in US - where's their handout?

if u had 100 stories of ppl above your head. how much per person would your tax bill b??? how many ppl r payin for each foot of land??

I'm wondering what happens when the sea has reclaimed the beach where the Long Islanders homes once stood.

Good point. Hopefully in time it will be another New Orleans, just a ghost town, then empty lots etc.

Sweet, then we could build say a oil refinery, or a leaky nuclear power station, or something we the people realy need.

property taxes are a local issue and pay for their schools. Why would what they pay in property taxes have any other affect on their lives? Why would they be more entitled to "handouts" from the feds because they higher local politicians that raise their property taxes to pay for teachers unions?

New York has the highest taxes in the country - period. For all the taxes we pay - our emergency services and those who care for our infrastructure should respond better than this. THAT is the point. They are not looking for "handouts" you dumbasses. They are looking to save their lives.

my dads former home in smithtown - when he moved in 96 was 15+k a yr and my uncle lee's down the road, was a corner house lined 2 streets - 22k yr.

The part where people were opening dumpsters with rotting food says it all. That is Long Beach.

The amount of money one pays in TAXES does not in any way insure personal survival or Government help in time of a disaster.

Impossible to live on Long island with the property taxes being so high when does it stop. People are choking here with the high taxes. I can't wait for the day my kids are grown ups
