a couple of weeks, probably. once we'd finished munching on granny's tibia, there'd be little hope left.

I remember reading somewhere that within three days the whole Planet would be covered in ice.

It takes 8 minutes for the light of the sun to reach earth. So probably 8 minutes.

U might survive underground a while. Electricity maybe etc (odds are infrastructure would be gone)

The earth is heated from within as well, but still I would say within 36 hours we would all be dead. On a positive note, we won't die from drowning.

Most of us would make it a week or so indoors, until infrastructure started to fail from the cold. No gas, no electricity, pretty much without a prayer of surviving long. If you manage to keep warm somehow, food becomes your next concern.

The govt. paid for a study on that a couple of decades back. I think it was something like 45 days before all life on earth would be extinct.

Majority dead in a very short time. The warmer the climate the faster it would be. No insulation! No arctic clothing.!

It would get real cold real fast, but I don't think it would get cold as fast as some here think. The Earth's atmosphere retains heat. Otherwise we would freeze to death tonight after the sun went down. I think it would be a matter of weeks.

Re: How long would it take for us to freeze to death if the sun went out?
I had to do work a problem in physics similar to this. The question was: Given your knowledge of physics, how long would it take the earth to freeze solid if the sun was to suddenly burn out?
Yeah...lots to consider there.

Decades ago, but I think the closest to correct was all surface life would die off in the first 24 hours and the earth would be frozen solid in like 800 billion years. Hell, I did not even finish the problem and may remember the answers wrong.

Re: How long would it take for us to freeze to death if the sun went out?
Within a week, the average global surface temperature would likely drop below 0°F. In a year, it would drop to –100°F..... but the sun doesn’t only heat the Earth; it also keeps us in orbit - if it suddenly 'went out', the planet would fly off into never-never land! :)

We would have less than 8 minutes. That is how long it takes the sun's light to reach earth. If the sun went out, the temps would drop to about -235F very, very quickly. Residual heat would disappear almost faster then it took to write it.

I'm not sure if you understood my post. That is my point that the sun is heating on the other side of the planet. And the atmosphere retains the heat on the dark side to a certain degree or we would all freeze to death at nightfall.

By the Sun shining on it you fucking dipshit. The ocean is mainly what retains the heat.
