Where the Republicans need to go from here...
Well it's hard to believe that the Republicans could fuck up this election this bad. Not just the Presidency but the Senate also. Here are my thoughts on what went wrong and what needs to happen...

1)Social Conservatives. They are scaring away moderates and to win an election you need the moderates. People like Akin, Santorum, and other social conservatives scare the shit out of women and moderates. Republican won't win elections talking about abortions and birth control. The social conservatives also have outcasted the very active and growing group of libertarians. The RNC shit on Ron Paul at the convention and many people voted for Johnson because of this. The Republicans need to find a way to please the libertarians and social moderates. They Republicans need to stick to less government across the board. This is how they will win.

2)Candidates. The crop sucked this year. Everyone had at least one fatal flaw even Romney. Thankfully the crop for 2016 looks a lot better. The Republicans need to find legitimate minority candidates and fast. Women too. Just look at the Democrats and the candidates they have lined up. Clinton will be the nominee in 2016 and the Democrats can claim the first women president. I wouldn't be surprised if they put up a Hispanic in 2024. This would be a disaster for the Republicans.

3)Chris Christie and Hurricane Sandy. These two stopped Romney being talked about in the news. It killed his momentum. On top of that Christie's fat ass kisses Obamas ass and proclaims him a great leader. Suddenly the news went from Romney Romney Romney to Christie hugging Obama. He will take a lot of blame in the next few days and he deserves it.

4)Hispanics and Women. The Republicans have to find a way to get the Hispanic vote or I really believe they are done as a party. The Democrats cannot win over the Hispanics like the Republicans have. A big part of this is Immigration. I really think the Republicans need to groom Marco Rubio now. He needs to put an immigration bill up to vote. He can use that to run in 2016. The Republicans cannot lose any more Hispanics. Period. Same with women. Social conservatives scared them away. The Republicans also need serious women. Palin and Bachman are jokes. They can never win an election. It hard for women candidates. The need to be manly without being manly. Think Hillary Clinton. The Republicans need to use Kelly Ayotte more. She may actually be able to get elected.

5)Ground Game. Republicans got raped once again when it comes to ground game. Seriously I don't know why we are so bad at it. We have plenty of money. Next election we need to pour millions into our ground game and completely revamp our strategy. Democrats attract millions of uneducated fools to vote. Republicans need to find away to attract these same idiots to vote Republican.

6)Tea Party. Where the hell was the Tea Party this election? They were a huge force in 2010 and were nothing this year. Neither were the evangelicals. Maybe it was Romney's fault but the Republican electorate can't be this fickle.

7)Bush. The Republicans are still tainted by Bush. 2 Wars and the financial collapse at the end of his Presidency are still in voters minds. The Republicans need a serious rebrand. They really need to put forward new faces especially Hispanic and women.

The good news is this isn't the end of the world. The Republicans still hold the congress which will keep Obama in check.

The Republicans CANNOT be obstructionist's until 2014. They need to actually do something and give people a reason to vote for them.

Now to taxes... There is one thing Obama has been talking about all election. Raising taxes on the rich. Now that he's won he has political capital. The Republicans are going to have to give in on raising taxes on the rich. Obama will demand it and he has the leverage. But that doesn't mean the Republican can't get what they want either. They need to make a good deal with Obama. Something that will actually make them look good to the public. I hate that taxes will be raised but it will have to be this way.

Ayatollah Khomeini:
“Islam makes it incumbent on all adult males, provided they are not disabled and incapacitated, to prepare themselves for the conquest of [other] countries so that the writ of Islam is obeyed in every country in the world. But those who study Islamic Holy War will understand why Islam wants to conquer the whole world…. Those who know nothing of Islam pretend that Islam counsels against war. Those [who say this] are witless. Islam says: Kill all the unbelievers just as they would kill you all! Does this mean that Muslims should sit back until they are devoured by [the unbelievers]? Islam says: Kill them [the non-Muslims], put them to the sword and scatter [their armies]. Does this mean sitting back until [non-Muslims] overcome us? Islam says: Kill in the service of Allah those who may want to kill you! Does this mean that we should surrender to the enemy? Islam says: Whatever good there is exists thanks to the sword and in the shadow of the sword! People cannot be made obedient except with the sword! The sword is the key to Paradise, which can be opened only for Holy Warriors! There are hundreds of other [Koranic] verses and Hadiths [sayings of the Prophet] urging Muslims to value war and to fight. Does all that mean that Islam is a religion that prevents men from waging war? I spit upon those foolish souls who make such a claim.”

well said... Intelligent prose... I'm still butt hurt over this though. Really I don't care about the short comings of the party... why can't people see the true light of how to get this country up and running again? Programs, and food stamps and a healthcare plan that costs trillions won't do a thing. Oh and here's an honest question...

Doesn't the Bush Tax cut run out in Jan? Where does that leave middle america?

Everyones vote counts the same. Both Republicans and Democrats have educated voters but the Democrats are able to get people to vote who don't know shit about politics. They can attract people to Jay Z concerts and then bus them to the voting place.

The truth is the average American is a complete idiot. They don't know about nor care about the national debt, Iran, healthcare, or any of the important issues. All they hear the that the Democrats will give them free stuff and make things fair. Republicans need to find a way to counter this.

Well, that being said....it seems to me that fast forward 4 more years..... there will be more people than ever on programs. SO returning this country to a state of prosperity may well be a figment of our imagination. Because all the entitled recepients will be voting their needs first. This is why so many of us here on GLP think there may be doom in the near future because it truly feels as if it can't get much worse. BUT you and I both know it can get much, MUCH, MUCH, worse.

Don't underestimate Clinton. She will have 4 years to polish her image. You think Obama plays dirty? The Clinton's are the masters of the Democrat party. Unless someone emerges in the next few years the nomination will practically be handed to her.

The Democrats getting the first black president and then the first woman president would be a disaster for the Republicans. Everyone seems to love voting for history so I think the Republicans would be smart to put up either a woman or Hispanic. Rubio may be best for this reason. I think the Hispanics are more important then women long term. I think the women were mostly scared away by all the abortion/birth control/rape talk by a few people this year. 70% of Hispanics voting Democratic is a huge problem though.

The "legitimate rape" and other gaffs by Republican candidates don't help one bit either.

Republicans have to go after moderates who are socially liberal and fiscally conservative. Drop the anti-gay and anti-abortion talk. Maybe talk about freedom instead.

R-money and the Republicans' stance on not cutting one penny from the defense budget hurt them, too. Most Americans are tired of the never-ending wars.

well said...

Re: Where the Republicans need to go from here...
where it went wrong...

Since at least Trustees of Dartmouth College v. Woodward – 17 U.S. 518 (1819), the U.S. Supreme Court has recognized corporations as having the same rights as natural persons to contract and to enforce contracts. In Santa Clara County v. Southern Pacific Railroad - 118 U.S. 394 (1886), the reporter noted in the headnote to the opinion that the Chief Justice began oral argument by stating, "The court does not wish to hear argument on the question whether the provision in the Fourteenth Amendment to the Constitution, which forbids a State to deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws, applies to these corporations. We are all of the opinion that it does." While the headnote is not part of the Court's opinion and thus not precedent, two years later, in Pembina Consolidated Silver Mining Co. v. Pennsylvania - 125 U.S. 181 (1888), the Court clearly affirmed the doctrine, holding, "Under the designation of 'person' there is no doubt that a private corporation is included [in the Fourteenth Amendment]. Such corporations are merely associations of individuals united for a special purpose and permitted to do business under a particular name and have a succession of members without dissolution." This doctrine has been reaffirmed by the Court many times since.

believe in freedom

you can choose labels to circumvent freedom, if you choose

but you're searching for the freedom sold as a dream

don't be disheartened, we are all equal

at least we will be when money is redundant

have a happy life, while the conditions permit

peace, above all else
