Sounds in the Sky in Pinellas Park Florida- Rumbling like jet engines.

I had something similar happen to me a few years ago. I remember I was cutting grass in the front yard and even over the lawnmower, I could hear this rumbling growl in the air. I could tell it was coming from the south. It would come and go but I recall it was a very blustery fall day and so sounds are bent on wind streams as they move about.

The direction I heard this was coming from both a Granite quarry as well as Hartsfield Jackson Airport in Atlanta, a mere 20 miles away (not far when a jet flies 300-500 miles an hour). Anyway, I surmised that it was jets in a traffic holding pattern. When they turned directly opposite of me heading south, their engines were facing me, whether they were 2 miles or 10 miles away. I heard the rumble at various strengths so that could explain some of it. If the wind was blowing 35 miles an hour that day, it would be totally conceivable that I was picking sound that could have been more than 14 miles away in its point of origin and so I just deduced it to being jet engines I was hearing.

Also with that quarry and Interstate 20 being 2 miles south of my position that day, there was A LOT of noise being carried by the wind.

11/4/13, 9:55 pm. Just heard the same thing previously described in Pinellas Park last Friday night. No visual, only a loud rumbling noise south of Dunedin. What's going on?
