The ingredients in many formulas are no more synthetic than the VITAMINS the same anti-formula people tell everyone to take. Its true there are some man made ingredients in all foods that have turned out to be bad for us. But the fact something is synthesized from natural ingredients does not instantly make it bad. Even synthetic things actually come from nature, it just depends on how much processing away from nature it has gotten.

I breastfed on demand, wherever I happened to be except, of course, the bathroom.

Its a no brainer. Who wants to deal with smelly sour plastic bottles when your own milk is always clean and fresh? Always the right temperature. No waste or leftovers. Always available. No late night trips to the store.

I was bottle fed and my teeth are messed up as a result. Breastfed kids don't need braces.

There's no reason not to, if mother is healthy and doesn't get pregnant again.

Used to be if a woman was too sickly to feed her baby a healthy woman would be hired to breastfeed the baby. That's a much better solution than infant formula.

Its not just nutrition. Breastfeeding on demand is frequent intimate loving contact. It supports a trusting bond that influences how the infant views the world forever. It teaches mother just how important her role is.

Besides, I gained fifty pounds to birth a nine pounder.in three months of nursing whenever he demanded, I was in my pre pregnancy clothes and my belly was fit and flat without exercise.

I don't think most breastfeeding moms are anti-formula, but rather PRO-breastfeeding.

Both my OBGYNs hated the fact I am in better health then the majority of their patients. My son came home 2 days after birth, and my daughter went to the NICU because the doctor didn't believe my water broke, didn't check it and she got an infection because of it. Nothing I did/didn't do. And an incompetent cervix has nothing to do with diet, it's how my body works.

People don't need a lot of things, and I guarantee everyone has items on that list. It's easy to say X,Y and Z and get smug over it.

I don't drink alcohol, don't smoke pot, work around my kids so I can be home and with them all the time and there's worse things then smoking a cig here and there and drinking coffee I could do.

As to the anti depressants, if they help me cope then it doesn't hurt anyone but me. It's not a cure all, but it beats not having them, which I tried.

I actually feel bad for you. In all honesty, no sarcasm. But I think if you would have had more support, and I mean true support, you would have probably made different choices. I am glad your health is good. But don't think its guaranteed to stay that way forever. Change your way now that you're still healthy and hopefully it will be in time for it not to catch up with you.

You are proud that it was easy to deliver a preemie? I was on my feet hours after delivering a full term nine pounder naturally. Childbirth is safe and natural. Its not a niracle we are up and walking after.

If you quit smoking and drinking coffee you would not need anxiety meds. You could probably get off anti-depressants.

Your children are exposed to cigarette smoke and nicotine oil on your hands, skin, hair and clothes. Quit for them. They have a chance to escape all the beurotic health problems you seem to have. Smoking IS associated with premature delivery. Don't waste your time on guilt--just get healthy now. You will find it worth the effort. (I know quitting caffeine and nicotine is challenging but it can be done).

I was circumcised, likely the cause for my failure to 'latch.'

After that point, I had:
-Jaundice postnatally
-Pneumonia at 2
-A constant 'CFS' like illness which had me in and out of doctors between ages 5 and 10, plus constant ear infections, strep, etc.
-Pneumonia at 13, in August no less
-A chronic sinus infection for the next 10 years.


During college, as I learned more about biology, I learned to listen to my body, and work with, rather than against my internal bacteria. It took a long time to 'recover' from my childhood, and see how healthy I could be.

Here's a great unknown thing. Goats milk is produced without hormones. It's milk protien is small and very similar to human breast milk. It is a little higher in sodium. In other areas, it is comparable to human breast milk. The only thing with goats milk is that if you use it exclusively then just add a little bit of water, if you use it along with breast milk, no worries.

The amish use goats milk to feed their children. Before comericially manufactured baby formulas, goats milk was used.

When I had my oldest I was young and Breastfeeding benefits may have been known but there weren't as many advocates for it as there is now. He was born early and sick. I tried so hard to breast feed him, I wanted to! While still in the hospital I noticed he couldn't breathe while nursing. They did all sorts of tests and came back to tell me he wouldn't be able to nurse due to a deviated septum. I pumped as long as I could to give him breast milk but I couldn't keep up with his appetite. He is now almost 12 and very healthy.

My daughter nursed for a little while, I got very sick and suffered a migraine headache for 2 days, still trying to nurse but my milk dried up. I tried to get it back with supplements, nursing and pumping but it never did. I had to give her formula. She is now almost 5 and very healthy

My youngest, born with neural tube defects stayed in the NICU for almost a month before he could come home, I pumped and took the milk to the NICU, they also supplemented with formula when I couldn't produce enough (pumping with some women just doesn't produce milk like a baby nursing). I nursed him for a long time (months) supplementing with maybe 4oz of formula a day. He had horrible bowel movements with breast milk, the pediatrician told me to stop and put him on formula, I knew he was my last and I wanted so badly to nurse, so against Dr orders I continued to nurse and change my diet to try and get his bowels regulated. I failed and it was causing him to have serious issues so I finally had to give in to giving him formula.

I wanted nothing more than to have that bonding with my child, I wanted to nurse my children, nourish them from my own breast, provide for them in the way I was intended to. When people like you say what you say it really stings a little bit. I am so glad you were able to nurse your child but please don't bash women that can't. I agree that the women that CHOOSE not to are making the wrong decision, but it IS their decision.
