Paul Padfield, the homeowner, first noticed the gap in his front yard on Monday morning after taking his son to school. Yet, as he told Cfnews13.com, it has continued to grow since then: "It was about half that size. The depth is about twice as deep as it originally was." The hole is around 60 feet wide and ten feet deep, but engineers do now believe that the crater has stopped spreading. It's thought that the roots of two large trees provided some structural support and stopped the hole from swallowing up the entire sidewalk.
