The radiation from Fukushima is said to have travelled round the world and still lingering. Just a particle is enough to cause illness.

a few hundred well placed nukes, will reduce our numbers by at least half

not nice, i know, but you have to think about it. all they are doing is putting the pieces in place, so it SEEMS legit, but you can bet every single 'antagonist' in the coming war will all be singing from the same hymnsheet.

All can be talked and everything can be sorted out. It takes patience and good will

Most effects are relatively localized.

Most people aren't aware that roughly 490 atom bombs of varying yields have been exploded IN THE ATMOSPHERE since 1945.

Yet there are still billions of humans still alive.

Don't get me wrong, a relatively large device say 275 kilotons if used on a large city would create death and destruction on an incomprehensible scale. But on the other hand, a couple of dozens of these would not be the end of life on earth.

Actually a much, much worse scenario would be if the world power grid suffered a catastophic failure and all the nuclear power plants and their spent fuel cooling pools melted down. That would end life as you know it on Earth. THAT IS HUMANITIES ACHILLES HEEL.
